I'm not convinced that the margin was, in fact .2secs. After watching, I think the R8's lap was less smooth - but I'm sure both cars could run better. Best out of three laps would have given a better picture.
I think the reviewer stated it best,"These cars are so evenly matched..."
I agree.

I agree.
And with the price hike for the 991, the MSRP should be very close as well. New R8 prices should be released soon.
Was always interested in such comparison. Nice find.
Btw, the difference would've been much higher with PDCC ...this one didn't seem to have one (was sitting too high off the ground...)

I hope to have a more in depth comparison of these two cars. The wife likes both of these (but she hates the cost of options that we both feel should be standard features). So this is on my radar (albeit reeeaally far off). Will be nice to take this under consideration over the next 4 years.
The R8 platform has "aged" well, as can be seen by the fact that it is even competitive on a track with Porsche's main stream sport car. Because the R8 is so unimportant to Audi from a volume perspective, I'm glad that they invested the money to upgrade to the dual clutch. Had they not, I think it would be a signal that the R8 would join BMW's Z8 as a short-lived "shining star". Audi had to essentially redesign the rear understructure of the car as well as the transmission to get the dual clutch technology into the R8. They wouldn't have done this unless there was a next generation on the boards. For guys like me that have owned a ton of Porsches and never thought I'd find something that I enjoyed more, my R8 has been a revelation.
