I tell them no before they even start. In fact the dealers know me and know to skip it. I think there is definitely value in some of what they offer. But I would never want the dealer to be the one choosing who they use. There is an advantage of financing but I would rather not have a clear bra frome the dealer.

No interest in lo jack, or key protection. Last one is the Ibex. In talking to my wife about this, we were comparing how much damage we've had to the interior of our last 3 cars with 2 labs and the kids and it's been minimal. So I think I'm going to pass on Ibex as well.
On a side note we're getting pretty good rates on financing. 2% is about where we are at this point and that is for up to 72 months. Porsche offered just over 2 percent and my back says they will beat that, so we'll see. I was surprised, especially for that long of a term. Not sure what we're gonna do yet with the length of the loan yet, but I like the idea of a longer loan so I can keep my money in my bank and earn more interest on it and just pay more each month if I want to pay if off sooner. Considering how low the rates are it seems to make sense. Hope to have the final numbers by the end of the day.
The other point about the tire and wheel protection that no one has mentioned and something that I have with it is ding and windshield protection. If you car gets dinged, they fix it and insurance will cover with no charge to me. Also, windshield, if it gets hit by a rock, they fix it. If windshield gets cracked badly, they replace it.

Just a quick not on the extended warranty. If you buy it when the car is new, they won't charge you the inspection fee or the alignment fee.

Not sure how much it is in your area, but something to look into if you plan on keeping the car and want the extended warranty. I plan to keep the car more then 4 years, so I am going to get the extended warranty from the beginning to avoid the inspection fees.

CO997,

Here is what I plan to do with financing https://www.penfed.org/New-Auto-Loan/
I will talk to the finance guy to see if he can beat this (72 months at 1.49% for up to 70k and you dont have to be in the armed services or have family members in it). I doubt he will be able to. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Thanks,

naaranha

As an aside, I hate the way they always try to sell you something at financing. Why can't they just discuss all the options with the buyer up front? Actually, I know why -- it's so you can't negotiate it into the price of the car. I usually decline these late upsell offers just on principle and tell them they should have brought it up earlier if they wanted me to consider it.

I self insure all that & so far I'm well ahead of the game.

I will say the finance people who push that stuff must be paying lots for acting classes on how to react when you say NO...

question for everyone: does the tire/wheel insurance allow you to repair at any porsche dealership? just curious how it would work if they selling dealer isn't where you might service the car. thanks.

Pretty sure Chup used it at a few different dealerships during his trip across the country, so I believe the answer is yes. Maybe he can chime in here to confirm.

I say yes to the tire and wheel protection.

I have a clear bra on both of my cars and recommend it if its a DD or you will track the car at some point.

I am not in favor of any interior protection warranties.

Good luck

Sorry, if I sound cynical but they are all pure dealer profit. So if you are feeling a sense of generosity towards the dealer get them all!
In reality in the long run and except for isolated incidents that some may narrate to none of these are worth the paper they are written on. Just my opinion.

I believe that is true. They give you a 800 number to call and a contract that you must carry with you. You show other dealer the contract, they call insurance company and work out the particulars. I believe it is as simple as that. Also, you are not restricted to a dealer. I believe you can go anywhere, but that shop and insurance company must agree on a price.

That is part of it, I am sure. But I think another reason they let the finance guy do it is to provide him an opportunity to sell you something to make some commission. I am sure there is some psychological reason they wait also, but don't know what it is. These guys have all the human behavioral science figured out. It is your job to resist all the temptations.

Here's how bad the game is....I'm paying cash, but when the paperwork is ready I go in & they have a worksheet all printed with the extra BS already added.

I say no & it's like you stabbed them in the heart because now they have to print another set of papers.

And they wonder why most hate the process.

I hear what you are saying, thats one of the reasons I'm doing all of this from my house. Just going to tell them what I want or don't want and have them send me the docs. Makes it much more pleasant. In fact I'm doing most of the communication by email.
