Add on options from finance

The finance manager called me this morning to go over the final numbers. He also wanted to let me know about some of the extras they offer
Wanted to list them here to get some thoughts from the forum members. I'm sure others on the forum are purchasing soon and thought having all this in one location might help. I know there have been threads on the clear bras an low jack but I didn't see the other options.

1. 3M clear bra - Hood, finders, Mirror, bumper, rear wheel arches - $1695.
I asked him if they really use 3M or another product and he says it not 3M any longer but wasn't sure which product. He is going to call me back. I know Xpel is getting a lot of talk here on the forum and I was leaning that way. Will see what he says. However the price was in line with what I heard for Xpel.

2. Ibex environmental paint and interior protection. I'd never heard of this one. From what I could understand it covers the exterior paint from any environmental damage, acid rain, road tar, bird droppings, paint degrading, etc. They will attempt to fix by any means up to a complete respray. It also includes the interior leather for "any damage", with as many claims as I want, and no deductible. So scratches, tears, rips, markers, any sort of interior damage. Repair or complete replacement. It's good for 7 years for $800

3. Tire and Wheel plan. 5 years $1750

4. Key replacement. $375, can't remember how many years but it was up to $800 in replacements

5. Low Jack - 7 years $995

I'd appreciate any insight. I am most likely going to get the tire and wheel package, depending on what clear bra product they offer i might go that route as well. Not sure sure I want lo Jack. If someone steals it Im sure they will "drive it like they stole it", so not sure I want it back... Ibex is of interest because I have 2 young kids and car seats that will be in the back so who know what will happen back there and to my seat backs!

I got the tire and wheel plan and think its worth it. You should price out clear bra in your area, as I am sure it would be cheaper, maybe someone on the forum who lives in your area can recommend one. Ibex, up to you, but since you have kids, maybe good idea - $800 for 7 years with no deduct doesn't seem bad. I did not bother with lojack for the reasons you mentioned, and was not offered key replacement, but would not have gotten it if offered.

Glad to hear your car is finally going to be in your hands. I'm thoroughly enjoying mine. My clear bra installer told me he switched from X-pel to SunTek, because the adhesive on the X-pel tended to distort when wrapping and stretching around panels. Otherwise he says they are both self-healing and will not yellow with age, etc. BTW, he does all the Ferrari and Maseratti work in Atlanta.

Dealer called back about clear bra and they use LLumar. I'm just starting to research their product now. I'd love some input from someone that has that product on their car.

He did mention the extended warranty but said he would recommend I wait till my second or third year of ownership to determine how much longer I was going to keep the car. Then if I decide I'm keeping it for a few more years to get the warranty at that point. He said it wasn't worth the money to get it right now. We didn't talk numbers on that option so I have no idea what it costs to get up front or at year 2 or 3.

1. I recommend the clear bra, just take a look at the quality of their work. A good installer will make it so you can't even tell it's there.
2. If you curb the wheels you can have them fixed for a lot cheaper. If you purchase your next set of tires from discount tires you can purchase the tire protection program for a lot cheaper.
3. I'm not certain what lo jack covers??

1) Big fan of paint protection film. I have Xpel Ultimate and Love it. I recommend having a private, reputable shop do the work, not the dealership. Dealerships are trying to get in on this because they are recognizing it is a valuable revenue stream. The downside is they don't have the experience. I've seen some horrendous work done by dealerships. They can do more damage than good without years of experience.

2) Rip Off. . . don't do it!

3) lots of 6Speeders find value in this. I'd do some research within the 991 section of 6Speed to make sure the program they are offering is worth the cost. The fine print in the program offered should be the deciding factor if you are considering. I think using your car as a daily driver makes it more worth it. I use mine for pleasure driving, so personally I didn't find it to be worth it. Personal Preference.

4) I wouldn't, unless I lose keys a lot. Seems like a money maker for the Finance Dept.

5) my Dad was just telling me, yesterday, about an article he was reading where thieves now have a new electronic device that disables LoJack, rendering it useless.

Just my $0.02. Best of luck with your decisions and CONGRATS on the new 991!! Make sure to post PICS!!

A friend of mine works in F&I at the dealership where I'd purchased my 991; he didn't attempt to sell me any after-market items.

Here's the way I see it: back in the day I used to do free-hand paint pinstriping for the high-end dealers in my area (this was really big during the eighties). At one point I was charging the dealership $65.00 per car and they charged the customer $350.00.

Many people used to look me up and get the same stripe done privately for $100.00.

I learned from experience that there is a large markup on most of the dealer's after-market options.

I don't even want to tell you the dealer markup on the first alarm system I'd designed that was able to detect the sound of metal striking against glass (smash and grab radio theft was ramped in the eighties).

Good luck with your new car!

1. I would get it the clear bra if its a daily driver, as yours is, and if you don't plan to keep the car. There two camps on this. But if you do be sure to get the entire hood, headlights, and the rear wheel arches. I'm finding the OEM fender protector doesn't go up high enough. If you can get it from outside cheaper, go for it.

2. Forget it. Especially if you get the clear bra. I'm not sure but for the interior, I think it only covers discoloration. Double check it to be safe. I passed on this too. The leather being used hasn't gotten any weaker over the years. Leather is very easy to clean up nice too. Dark interiors more of a reason to pass. Light interiors are a maybe. Me, pebble grey interior (light grey almost white), no kids, I passed

3. Tire warranty is something I recommend. I've now use it for three tires. $600+ for each rear tire means I'm now in the black with it. My warranty was cheaper for five years, but daily drivers may want to really consider it. It covers any tires or wheels you put on the car, aftermarket, OEM.

4. That is why I have my wife. She will humiliate me terribly if I lose my keys!! If you have a history of this like my brother in law, then I would pass.

5. I didn't know any better. It is my first Porsche. I did it, but am thinking its not really needed. Unless you live or visit high profile danger zones, then pass on it. If you were buying a Honda, maybe as they get stolen more than Pcars.

Would you mind letting me know what you decided. I am planning on doing the tire and wheel protection and also doing the clear bra. I also was considering lo-jack but pretty much plan to not do it for the reasons you mentioned. I was also considering a radar/laser detector system but they only offer the K40 and I was interested in the escort 9500ci. I think they wanted $2800 for the K40, seems a little steep! I am getting my sport techno wheels painted in a XDH option wheels painted in semi gloss platinum (like the option XDH that they have available on the configurator for the 20" Carrera Classic wheels), for $1600.

BTW, when do you pick up your car. I will be interested in seeing what your thoughts are if you end up getting the clear bra through them.

I have always declined those offers. Those items are almost always high profit items for the dealers and finance guys. Some people do like the tire and wheel insurance, and the tires are obviously expensive to replace if punctured. But remember, you are buying insurance. Nothing wrong with that of course, but the odds are in favor of the house, i.e. the insurance company. Many people refer to the tire and wheel insurance as a no-brainer, but if the buyer always "won," the insurance company would be out of business.

As others suggested, make sure and read the fine print before you sign to know what you are getting. Many of the wheel and tire policies are very specific on wheel damage coverage. Most of the policies I have seen won't replace a bent or damaged wheel unless it is damaged to the point where the tire won't air.

Bottom line is that it is your $$$, so do whatever makes you comfortable. Just make sure you understand what you are buying.

Thanks for all the responses. I think my plan will be to get the tire and wheel package. Maybe I can even talk them down some. I definitely want a clear bra, but I don't have any knowledge of llumar products, there is a lot of good comments here about x-pel and I talked to an installer somewhat close to me so I think I'll go that route as well. No interest in lo jack, or key protection. Last one is the Ibex. In talking to my wife about this, we were comparing how much damage we've had to the interior of our last 3 cars with 2 labs and the kids and it's been minimal. So I think I'm going to pass on Ibex as well.
On a side note we're getting pretty good rates on financing. 2% is about where we are at this point and that is for up to 72 months. Porsche offered just over 2 percent and my back says they will beat that, so we'll see. I was surprised, especially for that long of a term. Not sure what we're gonna do yet with the length of the loan yet, but I like the idea of a longer loan so I can keep my money in my bank and earn more interest on it and just pay more each month if I want to pay if off sooner. Considering how low the rates are it seems to make sense. Hope to have the final numbers by the end of the day.
