I do not have the Porsche batter charger that I've read about here. That being said I have the one I attached in the the pics here. It has been snowing non stop for a week and is supposed to continue for at least a week. I took her out for a short drive today, needed dog food! Not too much snow on the roads today, but was pretty slippery in summer performance tires . Since the weather has been pretty crappy I have not driven her much.

When i started up today, the screen showed battery discharge. I am going out of town all of next week so it will sit for another week. I'd like to put a charger on the battery while I'm gone so the battery is good when i get back.
Can anyone here tell me if the one I have in the pics will work, and if how how I'd set it up to run while I'm gone? I bought it for my lawn tracter but have not used it yet.

 

The Porsche trickle charger is 3.3 amps so if you use the 2 amp mode in yours you should be okay.

Buy a Battery Tender Jr. I used it last summer for 3 months no problem. Connect directly to battery. About $40 at most auto parts stores.

 

Never one battery problem and I have stored the car for over 3 months in the past.

Great product at your P Dealer. And there is a warranty that goes with the unit and the battery if you do have a problem.

 

Thanks for the reply's. Yes I should have purchased one from the P dealer, but I was not expecting to have the car sit this long. Going out of town tonight so no time to get one from the dealer. That is why I was wanting to use the one I have for the tractor.

I use the Diehard Platinum (2 of them) which is 3 amp on 3 Pcars and a Mercedes and they work great. Really like the digital readout which shows the percentage of charge along the way.

 

The Porsche charger is a rebranded CTEK. They're slightly cheaper direct from the manufacturer.

On a related note, which cigarette lighter socket does one plug the charger into? I've read here and there and have seen conflicting reports on which of the 3 (or 4, with smokers package) sockets are always on.

 

You could probably tell by plugging in your cellphone and charger. You just have to roll down the windows and leave it for 7-8 minutes after closing the door, until the car shuts down its electrical cycle. Then stick your head in the car to see if your phone is still charging. If not, that one is dead. Repeat until you find the always live one.

 

you can use any plug inside ...and its charging all the time.. witout been disconected

If you have the smokers' package, that one is always on, as that is what I use. The extra one on the passenger side footwell I am pretty sure shuts off after 10 minutes. Not sure about the others.
