minimalist spoiler
I just realized what the new spoiler looks like when it is extended..
well..it almost looks non-existent, so tiny!
any opinions on the matter? do we know what was Porsche's motivation etc?

I thought the total swept area and angle of attack given the rear roofline made it look more effective than the rising lid on earlier cars- or the new ducktail for that matter. The appearance is nothing like a proper wing, but wings serve a different function.
Agreed,
but the looks sucks :P is just not there anymore..

At high speeds the rear wing is there to provide more downforce. Back in the 80's big fixed rear wings fell out of style and Porsche created the extendable wing as a result. Due to today's modern computer design systems, the wing downforce required is smaller so the wing is smaller. The difference between the fixed wing and extendable wing is purely cosmetic from a downforce view today.

I haven't seen any actual data on the difference between it and the sport design bodywork so I have no idea if it is meaningful apart from aesthetic preference. Having had ducktails and flat wings in the past, I don't think it looks any worse when deployed, but do think the solution on the 981 is better- eg a wing separated from the body. I like that I can see it deploying in various configurations in the rear view mirror, something not previously possible.
It's perfect.

I don't mind the look of the wing when deployed, but the area beneath the deployed wing just doesn't look right. From an aesthetic point of view it's not attractive. Too bad because when it's not deployed the rear of the car looks perfect.
It would be nice if Porsche would publish the downforce at speed of the stock spoiler vs. sports design duck tail vs. aero kit rear wing.

Otherwise, why would you have it up manually, especially if it bothers you?
Unless, you're one of the guys who raises it when you take up 2 parking spots in front of a Starbucks and then sit outside for a hour to listen to people's comments.
How is it that you can see it when it's deployed? Do you have someone else drive your car, then you drive a different car alongside to check it out?

One thing is the spoiler being short,
but the other thing is that when it is deployed, and you park, you car seems like you forgot the engine hood up or something...
it would be really nice if that area underneath was painted ...
then I would accept the minimalist design as being 'elegant'

Speaking of thinking, what's with that?
