I think I can join you guys as well. I would rather start Saturday to break up the drive. I like the Blue Waters place HAKU suggested. If there is a common place to start Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, that would be fun.

Had a great time on Thursday, Friday and Saturday on The Tail of the Dragon, GA Hwy 60, Cherohala Skyway, NC Hwy 28 and Moonshiner's. Weather was perfect on Thursday and Friday, rain on Saturday but still great driving. Ran the Dragon four times.

For those going up through Clayton, I would suggest this route ATL>Clayton>Highlands>Franklin>Hwy 28>Deal's Gap. The Moonshiner (Highlands>Franklin) has just been repaved this winter and is great driving. Cherohala Skyway (Robbinsville>Tellco Plains) is an excellent run for a group as well.

Lynn and I will be in area on Sunday & Monday 5/19 & 5/20 on our way to Richmond, VA and then again on Thursday 5/30 on our way back home. Wish we could join you, but the FedEx St-Jude is on during your trip and we have a few guests coming for that. Sounds like a great time.

I'm trying to convince Lynn to do a trip report while we're gone, so we may be able to provide some additional insight for your trip. Having lived in Asheville for a couple of years, I can say that all roads mentioned so far are delicious.

Enjoy!

Has anyone decided what hotel will be used for those overnighting? For those going on Sunday only from ATL a meeting place and time to drive together?

I'm booked at Bluewaters on the 8th and I believe Carcam is as well. I plan on getting there early Saturday and join up during the day. Want to drive the area on Sunday as well. May stay over another night as well.

From what I have understood so far, a few fellows would join Saturday PM, but the majority of the participants would be there for Sunday only.
Being the "Mountain specialist" , can you think of an itinerary that would make both options work?

Thx!

Serge

Ok. Serge, over the next few days I'll try to come up with some suggestions for Saturday PM and for Sunday. It would be great for others who are also knowledgeable of roads around there to add their suggestions. Hopefully we can nail down a nice itinerary over the next weeks or so. Where are most staying?

For those going up on Sunday we could potentially meet in Franklin, NC, Clayton, GA or some place up 400. If we meet in GA everyone can top off their gas as it is about .50 a gallon more in NC. I paid over $4 a gallon a few weeks ago in Robbinsville,

At the dragon, we could consider meeting in parking lot of Fontana Village Resort on hwy 28, they have a large parking lot there.

Apologies for being a bit slow on the route recs. Silly things like work and life got in the way!

I intend to post some suggestions up this weekend but think that Windboat's suggestion for meeting up places are good.

Bearing in mind that my route suggestions would include a drive on the Dragon as well as The Cherohala from around Robbinsville and parts of Joyce Kilmer to Telico Plains I think meeting up in either Franklin NC or Fontana may be the way to go.

I think we're going to be in for busy roads so the focus for us will be on pleasant driving and good company. I'm looking forward to meeting up.

Serge, could you list out who's coming and from where?
