washed & wheel scratch aiieeesh

Well I was feelin' frisky in the high 50's w/sunshine weather out here today and washed the car.

Unfortunately, I let the metal hose head scrape against the wheel (I didn't even realize until after done washing).

Any idea how difficult this is going to be to fix? The wheel is a matte graphite Vossen CV3. Any ideas on what to do? Thanks!

That is insane. Nothing should scratch so easily.
Are you sure it was from your hose head and not some other unknown incident from before?

If that is the quality of their factory coated rims, I would take them to a high-end powder coating shop to get them all redone with the proper amount of coats and clear coat.

If the paint is really so fickle you'll have scuffed rims every month!!

Definitely seems like powder-coat should hold up a little better. Are they just painted?

No idea - just figured from the wash since I had not seen it previously. Could have been anything really. Hmm!

I saw them come right out of the shipping boxes, so it's whatever Vossen does to their matte graphite wheels. Maybe it's not from the hose and was there before the wash, but I walked around the car before washing and don't remember seeing it. Arg.

I'd contact Vossen, they may be able to ship you some paint and you can touch it up yourself, not a great fix, but better then leaving as is.

Almost looks like its something on your wheel and not actually a scratch...from the pic anyways.

nod, thanks. Here is another pic, I too at first thought it was something on the wheel, but it's definitely scratched or coating or paint came off somehow. It's not a deep groove into the wheel material, but the surface coating of whatever is on there is lightly chipped or knocked off.

Needs to be repainted. Check with your dealer or PCA for a recommendation. About $200 - $250 to fix. If you have wheel and tire insurance it may be covered also. Read the fine print.

I'd contact the manufacturer directly and arrange to have them do the repair. I don't think a wheel repair shop would be able to achieve a perfect match, and the wheel is going to have to be refinished. Best of luck! At least you have those perfect Carrera Classics to use while you wait for he repair to be done.

Thanks guys - great suggestions and your thoughts are very much appreciated. Guess I have a few calls to make tomorrow. Rnp614, the car is anthracite brown with a black top. On a side note, used Griot's spray-on wax for the first time after their wash, and I like it.

Ouch, you can take it to a wheel shop and see how much they cost to fix. I'm sure there are a lot of wheel repair shops in Seattle. It runs about $100 to $200 to fix, at least around here.
