Question: SportDesign Steering Wheel

In my previous Pcar (PDK), I could press the shift button on the multi-function steering wheel to downshift without moving the gearshift into manual mode, and after several seconds the car returns to normal PDK. For example, taking a "spirited" exit off the highway, downshifting with the steering wheel button, and while sitting at the stop sign or red light the PDK returns to normal. I liked that aspect, as I didn't have to bother shifting the gearshift into manual mode just for a couple of downshifts. My question is does the SportDesign steering wheel also work this way, or do you always have to shift the gearshift into the manual position to operate the paddles?

Thanks again!

I can shift the PDK manually when in Auto mode. Like the Tiptronic S in my 996 TT the transmission goes back to auto mode in about 7 seconds or so.

I drive in manual mode almost exclusively though. Only use auto mode for first mile or two while engine getting a little warmed up. Full operating temperature takes about 6 miles and don't use Sport or Sport+ until then.
