OK, if you were thinking Turbo - what options?

Likely not going to happen. Indeed, even less likely than that. Indeed, initially, I thought I did not like its look as much as my current ride. But the more I stare at it the more I fill the drool bucket. (sorry, need to come up with a better metaphor. I thought that the wife would help - she saw me looking at it online and I expected her to say "put that out of your head right now!" But she didn't which to me translates to "GO FOR IT."
I could even rationalize it as the 40th year of the turbo and if I lose that 40 pounds i have been trying to lose, I can reward myself with it - At the rate I have been losing weight, I may need to wait for the 50th anniversary edition of the turbo.
But just to keep up the torture, what options? Do you need PDCC in a 4x4? Are ceramic breaks worth $10K? What are the standard electronics and is the Bernmeister worth it? What about the adaptive cruise control? Is the SCP worth it - I never use launch?
As long as I am dreaming, I might as well invite all of you. What do you all think!

I am in the "drool bucket" too with the 991 Turbo . I have a very hard decision to make . My current Turbo is highly modified (almost 90K in mods) and with 700 Hp is not a typical Turbo . The new one would have to be incredible and sadly (for my wallet) it think it will be . I once considered getting a 991 S and keeping my curent Turbo and even ordered one last year and changed my mind . I am waiting to see it and I do feel that the first crop of turbos usually have some snags so i will wait until late in the first year of its production . I hope i don't love it but will accept it if i do.
The Turbo S has most of the must have options standard . I have in the past seen guys in the Turbo forum lavishly option the interior of their cars . I am going to keep mine modest and functional. --Choosing light color scheme for a Florida car White exterior /Agate pebble interior / Ventilated and heated sport adaptive seats / Burmeister -- and that is it !!!

The Turbo S has all of this . If one options a base Turbo with all of the choices it will come so close to the "S" that it's a no brainer to get the "S" .

Ceramics -- Porsche tests these brakes in all types of conditions and many track enthusiasts argue that the cost of maintaining them is more expensive . In fact on my current turbo i have Brembo BBK but hands down if i buy the new car I will keep this 991 tts stock , wont track it and yep .. it will have ceramics !!
The stereo --At 180+K why not have a music symphony .
One last thing AG991 - I traded in my 993 for a 993 Turbo in 96 . I did the same in 2007 trading in my 997S for a Turbo . It's very expensive to make the switch . Lets say you got 90K in trade on the 991S for a 185K turbo S . Be ready to cringe at the cost . I still remember seeing my 993 sitting right next to my 993tt while i switched items from one car to the next . It wasn't until i drove home that the shock turned into this huge smile which lasted for 4 years after i bought it. I even still feel that way with my 997tt and I'm going on 6 years with it .
Like i said --I hope I don't love the new car as much as I think i will.

I agree with much of what you said. I have an early 991S now. If I buy a turbo, it would be late in the run or early in the next. I was thinking of the SCP, the additive cruise and PDCC. I think for the money that there are better aftermarket sound systems. Ceramic breaks are nice, but too expensive. Vented seats, parking sensors, and voice control. I have a design concept in mind for the interior, but it should not cost much.
I wonder though about PDCC. And while I like sports plus in my S, would it be any practical help in a turbo? And the delta is over $8,000.

Sport Chrono Turbo is crucial !! It's not just about launch control . the throttle map adds extra turbo boost on the former gen Turbos and I have not read about the new car but anyone who forgot to put it on the last gen could not believe how important it is . In fact my local dealership has a 997tt without SC and it has sat unsold for over a year !!

Ok, that takes some air out of the ballon!

Of course one can spec a modest base turbo at 154K without any major options but adding sport chrono . Then he'll start posting in the Turbo section and see Turbo S cars with everything from deviated stitching to a customized toothbrush and then he'll want it . The one thing he will want most is the extra 40HP of the S . That's the one thing that has to be considered vital .
Things like PDCC and SCP are standard in the "S" . If this is your first Turbo the extra Hp in the S along with the options make the overall price difference the one bargain choice . Most turbo owners thrive on HP . Read the forums in those folders .. you'll see .

Great points. I assume about 100k for the current ride. When I settle the loan, that leaves 50k. Fortunately, the 100k trade halves the sales taxes. So, a Turbo (I was not thinking of a TurboS), optioned as I want, will be 165-170k. Assume $170k. Another 7k in taxes, and 10k in clear bra, wheel/tire package and radar. Say 190k. 70k more down and 70k at 2% - about $1,500/60 months.

Good advice to be sure! But I am not sure it matters that much to me - emphasis on the not sure! I am a torque junkie, not an HP nut. My one real complaint about the S is low end torque. I put a 4:10 gear in my mustang and it is a beast up to 60. I love it, but it is not a complete car like the 991. I know the S has more of everything, and it might be the better value. But I could save $15-20k. Again, I don't want to be penny wise and pound foolish. That is5-10% of the cost. Anyway, I have lots of time to think and calculate. And dream! You give great advice and thank you!
It's not like i didn't consider going from 700 to 750 though

Realize this .. the torque and Hp plus the PDK in the 991 Turbo being so sophisticated will make this new car so amazingly efficient . I imagine it to be like low level flying.
Just be prepared to love the car, price the switch , and walk out of a dealership (or even two dealerships) several times . then driving home in your 991S rationalizing to youself "I'm hardly suffering with a beautiful 991S " until you see a Turbo here or there on the steet or read 6speed .
Been there . it's tough.

Whether or not there are "better" audio upgrades for the Turbo S vs the OEM Burmester, quite frankly I don't want half my interior pulled apart for an aftermarket install and get the associated rattles and what-not that you can get when you go that route.
I'd rather have everything nice and tight in the cabin as it came from the factory. For me, just an LI/Radar installation would be pushing the limits of how far I'd be willing to go with the interior work. YMMV.
