So, how would their total absence in the GT3 actually make any difference to an owner?

It's very different when you compare a Bentley Continental GT to its Super Sports edition because the Bentley rear seats can actually seat adults with a modicum of comfort and legroom, so their absence in the SS would me missed in a DD.

But since Porsche made the GT3 to be a mostly track car, who needs those unusable back seats, anyway?
I use the back seats on regular basis. My kids love to sit in there...heck I've taken few road trips with all 4 of us and it works great. These back seats have gotten me this car ...wifey would've never cleared a 2 seater !!

its only available on the GT3 as its sits lower.

There are some aftermkt solutions, I think.

Does the GT3 actually have back seats? I thought they were removed for the GT3 and its space is carpeted flooring?

I use my back seats regularly. I'm not saying they are comfortable for adults, but they are usable. I tend to put bags of stuff, groceries, etc back there anyway. We have taken 2hr road trips with three people in my car. The passenger has to pull their seat up though for any moderate sized human in the back.

Kudos to you (really your passenger) for being able to sit in the back for 2 hours. I have enough trouble getting INTO he rear seats, let alone spend any amount of time back there. My 13 year old niece can fit back there comfortably but any adult has to be small framed and extremely flexible to find any comfort in the back for any extended time. It is just not meant for a adult human.

Last night I had my 6'1" but very thin brother in the back seat for 30 minutes. (Behind the driver -- me -- because the extinguisher doesn't allow the front passenger seat to move up that far). I'm not saying he was comfortable but the back seats work for almost any height slender person for relatively short trips... that is healthy enough to deal with a little bending/contortion

What did Jeremy Clarkson once say? If you own a Porsche, your wife or girlfriend should be able to fit in the back seat.

LOL, yeah, something like "only the thinnest women could sit back there, but that's not going to be a problem for you, because you own a 911." Hehe.

All I'm saying is the back seats are actual transportation. Not the best mode by any stretch, by in my experience, given the choice between walking/the bus or sitting in the back, friends choose the back and come out in one piece.

I actually use the rear seats in the 911. Going to lunch with coworkers. Stuff like that. It's not ideal, but if you need to... they're there.

I wanted to make sure I could "live" with the 911 and use it as a DD if needed.

Oooooh perfect. I like how you keep it pure !
I'd even skip the Sound package. And this may be seen as blasphemy, but I'd consider speccing the cruise control :-)

I thought about asking if the GT3 had seat massagers but I was afraid they would throw me out of the dealership.

My 09 997.2 C2 has been my DD for almost four years now. I actually use the back seats all the time. My 5 year old son fits there perfectly and just loves it there. There's been plenty of times that I've had 4 people in my 911. You so have to be smallish to fit in there though !

BTW, love that episode of Top Gear where Jeremy Clarkson reviews the 997 Turbo.

If you don't need the back seats, I'd go for the GT3 for about the same price though ! ( As long as you don't mind a hard ride though )

After watching Chris Harris' review on the new GT3, I am certain about my choice. The electric steering initially was worrisome, but as he said drive it hard and it goes away. What a car! Now, I'm about get a 991 to keep me entertained until the beast arrives.
