New to forum, ordering car next week

Hey everyone,

I'm new to this forum and am ordering my first Porsche next week. I want a sports car that can be used everyday, and the 911 seems to fit my daily needs. I really want the new turbo and am willing to wait for it, but will it be as good of a daily driver as the C4S? I really want that extra performance, but if it's not as reliable, its not for me.

Thanks,

Josh

Just as reliable? Yes, at least it is supposed to be. As good? Should pretty much be the same as the 4S but with the added power. The big question is do you want to wait? Daily driver shouldn't be a problem at all.

There are those who don't want to fiddle with the turbo as more moving parts means more chances for something to go wrong. Check the 997 turbo forum and gauge them about reliability.

If it were me and I had the option, I'd wait for the turbo. Porsches are known for their reliability. Go with your gut and start biting your nails as you await delivery.

While I think owning a GT3 is the dream of most of us on this forum, historically as a DD several folks on the forum have verified it is not the best choice as a DD. Particularly since it appears you are located in NYC. you really can't go wrong with a properly optioned C4S. Of course it is all about your own personal preferences.

Once you have a C4S the time will pass quickly before the turbo is launched . The fact that you mention it before even getting any car points even more towards getting the Turbo .

I currently own a Turbo and relaibility has never been an issue . the only negative thing i can think of is that since the car is expensive I tend to worry more about where i park or drive it . I feel less concerned when i drive my Boxster or Cayenne .

Weigh all the pros and cons and good luck with whatever you pick.

Test drive a 997TT and a 991 C4S first, just to see if you prefer the very different nature and power delivery of the turbo over a naturally aspirated engine. I imagine that the new turbo will have a smoother and more progressive torque/power delivery than previous generations (this is just my personal guess), but it will still be more brutal than with the C4S. More than any other thing (how long you have to wait to to pay), it is the criteria that, i think, should guide your choice.

Just my 2 cents...

I'm still wondering how, when and where I'll use the accelerative capabilities of my ordered C2S PDK that I can't imagine how I'd ever be able to use the potential of the Turbo or Turbo S. It's nice to know it's there but seems to be a waste if you rarely put it to use. I fully expect to be satisfied with the Carrera S.

The vast majority of Turbo owners began with a normally aspirated 911 . In fact its quite uncommon that a Turbo owner bought a Turbo as his first Porsche .

Do you want to know when most of them decide to buy the Turbo ?

For some its when they see a Turbo climbing on them and unless theres a curve it's not long before they see the rear of the car which says "Turbo" !!! It's actually the last thing about the car he sees and in his spare time he remembers it .. until he has one.

It's not all about the raw power. I truly love the linearity of my naturally aspirated 991S2.

Then again, I do have a 700 HP blown Terminator for those times when I want that mid-ten-second rush. But I still enjoy driving the 991 a great deal more. It even trumps the ZO6 I traded in for it, and I really loved the brutal power of the N/A 427 ( that slightly modded car did eat a few 911 turbos in its day, and it was a heck of a lot less expensive. LOL).

I owned a launch 996tt and a launch 997tt - both cars were perfect. I would not worry at all about reliability issues in the 991tt. I've already spec'd out my 991tts, and will have to decide whether to give up my V10 R8 spyder (which I love) for the new turbo. High revving MT screamer or PDK torque monster? I have a feeling that the new turbo will have electronic and mechanical suspension components that will make it feel much more nimble than the 997 turbo

+1, make sure you want turbo or NA engine... They are different animals and the 4S is no slouch.

I guess Im in the minority; my first Porsche was a 996TT, my 2nd was a 997.1TT, and my third was a 997.2TT PDK. And now that Im not a current owner of Porsche Im actually looking at a C4S. From my short test drive experience to many posts here by current owners; the 991 chassis has clearly advanced. I just wonder how much power loss I can endure after the honeymoon period of owning a new car has worn off. Thank god I might just consider a 24 month lease and the "welcome to porsche" 4500 credit.

.
I believe this is a myth which has been debunked my many tuners on this forum who took the 997 Turbo , reduced the turbo lag , and upped the Hp curve . Granted a Turbo engine is not a normally aspirated engine but porsche really undersold us with the stock Turbo car . Perhaps they didnt want amateur drivers crashing 10 second cars on public roads so they made the stock car bland and that's why the majority of tuners honed in on that specific car above the NA cars .

And BTW a Turbo comes in at the ring at 7.38 ansd taht even beats a Gt3 by 2 seconds so it does depend on the track which the cars are compared .

And as for acceleration .. Heck i love driving my Boxster too but its not my Turbo . Take a look at what the last gen compared to its NA counterpart in straight line . If this is ok with you .. then enjoy the C4S but I want more .
