Loading emails on PCM
Loading emails on PCM
They guys, I have a 911 991 4S model 2014 with the latest version of PCM.
Today I received an SMS on my phone and it showed up on my touch screen in my Porsche. I thought, hey that's cool! After playing around a bit more it seems I can also display all my incoming emails on that screen.
I have an iPhone 5 (latest iOS version) connected to the car via Bluetooth.
In the phones Bluetooth settings for the PCM connection I have 'Show notifications' and 'Sync Contacts' both turned on.
I get my emails via the standard iOS MAIL application that comes with the phone. Connected email account is my Gmail via Exchange option in the iPhone.
I have already tried to unpair, and remove the Bluetooth connection, and to pair again.
Yet for some reason my emails are not loading in the car. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I have a 3 month old 2013 C4S and I have never received a text message. I get a notification beep or tone but nothing I can read. Do you think this is a new feature on the 2014? I have the same items checked and turned on.
I have a 2013 C2S and here's my experience:
-with an iPhone5, the best I can get is a notification when I get a new text message and only the text message itself (not even the ID of the sender!!!). This is a limitation of iOS that does not support the protocol selected by Porsche for the PCM (or, looking at it the other way, Porsche should better have selected the protocol to support the best selling high end smartphone...)
-with a Droid DNA or other recent Android phones, both the text messages end emails functionalities work great.
This being said, checking your emails on the PCM screen is very distracting. Either you are stopped and you might as well use your smartphone, either you are driving and you should not be reading emails on your center console...
Regarding the aha Radio service, it only works through the USB port for the iPhone but works through bluetooth for Android. But aha is far from being the best option for online streaming.
In a nutshell, nice effort from Porsche to make progress with their electronics but still waayyyy behind market leaders in this field

I will have to be the test subject for the Windows Mobile. I fear that there it is not going to work but as Serge suggested I dont think I will read email on my center console. I have way too much trouble staying within speed limits...
I will let you know if my flight finally gets me home tonight!

I just jumped ship from Apple a few months ago and picked up a HTC One.
Best designed current phone available imo. but I digress. I did have the email/sms feature with my previous car via Bluetooth.
If there's any way pcm can pick it and sms up over Bluetooth i'd like to check it out.
Maybe older 991's can get the feature with the latest system version upgrade.
So my question is for the 2014 buyer...what is the version of your pcm? you can dig through the menu's and find it.
I'll post my version as well. Toyota sent me an upgrade on usb for the Entune system they used and it upgraded the version and enabled new features. I have to imagine that Porsche has a similar program or does OTA updates via your cell phone's data plan.
and Congratulations on your 2014!.

I had emails coming in on my 991S and my BMW 650 when I used Blackberry. When I switched to iPhone 5 I lost that feature on both cars. Both Porsche Dealer and BMW dealer say it won't work with iPhone 5 due to that phone's security software not being secure enough. Going to go back to Blackberry soon.

It'd be great if you push info button and share what the revision there. I'll check mine and post tomorrow.

Hi
I have an Android HTC. I can connect the phone to PCM for phone calls and music. But don't know how to display texts and emails on the screen. Can someone tell me how? Thanks in advance.

As mentioned above. My dealer advises only Blackberry emails will show on the PCM. Due to security issues with the other devices. Same thing applies to BMW 650

Not sure I understand this need to see or read texts or emails while in the car. Whatever it is, it can wait. If it were really important, they would call and you can speak using hand free. I have heard and seen too many instances where driver was distracted texting or reading emails and got into accidents. Just not worth it in my opinion.
