Maybe it's my aging eyes but I have a great deal of trouble reading all the gauges whether they have a grey or black background. Fortunately the digital readout solved that problem with the speedo but not the tach. It's more the reflections that interfere with the visibility of the dials more than the color of the dials.
HUD would be great (like the BMW's and Corvette).

I have the Base with black/white, and I think it's the most clear set of dials I've ever had - in terms of contrast in daylight and nighttime, it's really excellent.

(Well, aside from the analog speedometer being so small as to be useless, but the looking at the tach + digital speed works perfectly.)

Yellow gauges, no problems under any lighting and my eyes are aging, but I wear contact lenses.

Agree with that, saw them and they are very clear, just like the white dials BTW. Red dials have IMO the same problem as the grey ones, but it may be my eyes (also wearing contact lenses )

I haven't had an issue reading my tach. I will make notice next time I drive to be sure...

I have found that the biggest problem reading the tach is the light coming in from the windscreen. My last GT3, it seemed that the windscreen did not come up as high into the roofline and there was less light from above. With the 991, I find myself putting the sun shades down even when the sun is behind because of the glare. Like any camera lens, your pupils become more dilated because of the glare and then the tach seems darker and barely readable.

Anyone try and price a retrofit to black dial?

Should I load up a group buy?

So white dials with black numbers are easy to read? The white gauges look great with the dark interior color I've selected but don't want to sacrifice function for form. Appreciate the feedback.

Personally I liked the white gauges, I considered them and probably would have changed over to them had my build not locked.. (but I didn't like paying $850 + another $500 to make sports chrono match.. ).

In all my test drives and a couple friends cars the white was just fine visibility and contrast wise. Although as I've seen mentioned elsewhere the way they are lit I don't believe they look super white at night anyway.

I decided I'd wait until I got the car (black with white lettering) and if I still wanted white I'd do an aftermarket (suncoast makes a replacement face).. But now that I'm driving the black, I like it an have no desire to change..

Note the Carrera S, standard "Silver" tach is a another story.. That just looks odd.. and to me has a low contrast. Had I been stuck with that I would definitely change that out... But I ordered my "S" with the black tach which was a no cost option.

Thanks Scatkins, appreciate your feedback. Though with a white exterior and the new two tone espresso/cognac interior the white gauges look amazing, But I've heard that while driving the car, you can't even tell the gauges are white - do you concur? Frankly I'm starting to think punt the gauges (it's stupid spending $1360) opt for the no cost black gauges and put back the PSE which now only adds $1k more to the top line.

The white gauges only look amazing when the car isn't turned on. Once it's on and the gauges are lit up, they lose the bright weight and become a muddy gray. At night they look black. You'd never know they were white when you see them at night. A total waste of money which I'd gladly pay if they were bright white all the time, not just when not being driven.

I didn't drive the White gauges at night.. And to be honest I didn't notice any difference when driving in the appearance, but I probably didn't pay that much attention while driving. It was while parked that I have always looked at them the closest.. It wouldn't surprise me though that they dim up somehow at night because I would think that it would be blinding a when glowing white in your face at night in the dark otherwise.

Personally, now that I've driven my C2S for a while, the PSE is a given and a must and if I didn't have it would be sorely missed... I'd probably be looking for some kind of aftermarket solution.. The gauges, yeah in retrospect I'm glad I didn't pay the $1300.. It would have been a waste for me..

Thanks again. White gauges are officially deleted off my build & going with the no cost black. Still waffling on the PSE since that can be added later. So if I feel I've made an error, that at least can be remedied. Must say though the Sports Exhaust seems to be universally loved. Still have time to decide.
