Did the oil change myself to save some $$ ( it was easy) and the dealer still hit me for $65 to shut off the oil change service light/notice.... Such blood suckers.
I'll still do the next oil change myself but the service notice may need to get ignored.

Are you suggesting that their techs donate their labor because you were able to change your oil yourself? I also change my car's oil and I pay the dealer to clear to service light. They do that service, check the car over and provide me with a written inspection. They also charge $65. It's okay by me as they are providing a service and providing services and charging for them is exactly how I was able to buy my 991.

I also did the first oil change myself. Took me about 20 min not counting the time for a beer while the oil drained. But I have a lift in my garage....just like the dealer

I did have the dealer do the 10k mi service/oil change for $385 b/c there were three campaign items that were due and I needed a Panamera loaner to drive my friends to a concert the weekend my car was in the shop The dealer claimed that they were as low as anyone in the la area, and I'll be damned if he wasn't correct. I got other quotes of $545 (non-Porsche loaner) and $390 (no loaner). My service writer did acknowledge that he's seen the same service done for as low as $125 in other parts of the country.

Needless to say, I'll be doing all subsequent oil changes myself. As for resetting the service light, I have a buddy who'll reset it for free at his inde shop.

It was $120 in parts (oil, filter, insert, etc.) and 3 hrs of labor @ $345. It was mainly visual inspections, check pwr steering fluid, check for signs of chafing, leaks, etc.

I also had WD09 recall done on PDK and I wonder if they charged me the labor time for that...hmmm...

Interesting...seeing plenty of variability here. I did get a Cayenne GTS loaner (2013) for the day, which I kind of enjoyed, but man what a big car.

I'm curious how they arrived at 3 hours of labor. Shouldn't have been more than an hour, and that's if they're working really slow.

Paid $249 today for my 1st oil change in Boise, ID (USA) - 2600 miles and 1 year old. Actually paid $209 because dealer sent me a $40 coupon towards service. They seem to send those almost every month.

of course. We all should pay for services rendered. However, $65 to reset the light is laughable and is unethical. The work involved is:
1. Pull car into service area
2. plug in the computer
3. go into the menu to reset service light
4. unplug computer
5. drive car back to customer area

Notice I didnt write "place car on lift"? I had it done last week and i was chatting w/ the tech while he was doing it. The labor time involved is 5mins. SO how do they charge $65?

I wonder what the ASE guideline would say about is?

65.00 is probably a shop minimum, and even then it's break even at best. It's called overhead-service writer, porter, bookkeeper, mechanic and so on, all have salaries. Then there are those items like rent, utilities, insurance(s), computers, software, licensing, maintenance and 100+ other things that cost money just to open the door every day. My employees think I am getting rich, until they see "where the money goes" then they change their tune.

Business owners are in business to take risk and make money, saying they are unethical because they need to cover their costs is uncalled for.
