Help Please 9500CI
As folks know our C4s Cab is do in a few weeks. Asked dealer for price on 9500CI radar detector install and he quoted $2,995. To me he seems to be 500 high. Thoughts please. We are located in Daytona Beach and closest Porsche dealer is 60 miles, our is about 100 miles away.
This all depends on the install and how detailed and precise you want it. I put a 9500ci in my 2008 Porsche myself - I like projects like this. I paid $ 985 for the unit brand new off of EBAY, and saw the installs that other P-Car guys were getting. I wanted a cleaner, neater installation to make it look factory. It was medium difficulty and took me about 30 hours to do. I worked slowly and meticulously, and to do it right you have to put the front of the car on jackstands, remove the front wheels, remove the fender lines, remove the front bumper cover so you can gain access to the area under the bumper to install the receiver and laser shifters.
The real difficulty was getting through the firewall with the wire run into the cabin without doing any damage to the car. Porsche simply does not give you any extra openings and I was loathe to drill one. It took several hours to massage the wires past the existing rubber bushings and persuade them into the interior without damage to anything.
Finally I wanted an integrated dash, not just the lights stuck on the steering wheel column with 2-side tape. I spent about 5 hours crafting a leather dash insert to go where the sunglass holder lived in front of the shifter. I made one error in the install and that was placing the powered speaker too close to other power wires, resulting in an annoying whine that came through the speaker whenever the car was turned on. That had to go, and I spent a few more hours re-routing that speaker to behind the driver's seat, where it would not pick up any A/C interference from other powered wires in the car.
if you're handy, you can do that yourself and save $ 2K. Here's a photo of my control panel when i was done, this is all that was visible of the 9500ci (I also got rid of the cruddy CDR-24 Porsche stereo and installed the top-of-the line Pioneer you see in the photo as well). My install is at a higher level than any I have ever seen, but I also had 30 hours into it. Most shops will do one a little less factory-looking and take about 15 hours to do it. 15 hours x $ 100 an hour + cost of the unit itself and you can see why the price gets up there.

These guys - they make the best ones (and probably the most costly ones!)

Your mount seems to be attached on the side of the console, all the one's they sell are vent clips. Did you customize it?

No, that's an available mount, but my car is not a 991..its the older generation.

Wow. That sounds absolutely ridiculous. Does that include the detector? I purchased the Escort 8500 online myself and brought it into the dealer. The dealer offered me a 3rd party installation business that they trust, however after speaking with them and finding they have never done an install on a 991 I went to the dealer. They hard wired the 8500 & laser shifters and just charged labor (approx. 7 hours, close to $1,000). It works perfectly and I couldn't be happier, but $3,000 sounds like a robbery

All comes down to how customized the system is. It can be a very simple install or it can be quite intricate in the details for those seeking an OEM look. Here's ours:
997 Turbo:

Rear jammer integrated to license plate frame to produce an OEM look. All of the ones we have seen on the market have the rear jammer just bolted on top of the license plate frame, which is quite noticeable. We create a customized box for it so it is not noticeable

If anyone knows anyone in New England who can do a quality install for a reasonable price please let me know. So far I've gotten two quotes between $1800 and $2500 for install only which seems crazy to me. I already have a Belltronics and z4 waiting. Thanks.
