Here's a question back to you. Car warmed up, sitting at a stop. What does your tach show? When moving to the gas, does your tach drop significantly if at all? The cayman I'm driving, the tach is steady. It could be the fact that it is a different car. I don't think it would be that far off though.

I should be getting an answer tomorrow on what PCNAs answer regarding the transmission.
700 rpm at idle. Rpms don't drop when given gas to move forward...

Need help ordering new 2014 Carrera S options

I ordered a new 991 S this week and I can still change the order before it goes to Zuffenhausen in a few weeks. Please help me with the options I will really use. It will be a semi daily driver and maybe autocross/track a little.

Update:

PCNA does not think its a transmission issue. They think the issue is with the camshaft and sensor. If I remember correctly, they are sending a new camshaft and shims. They think the sensor is not positioned to read the shaft properly forcing the engined to stall to prevent damage. The parts should arrive tomorrow. Using the shims for the sensor. We shall see.

When you stated that in Sport/+ you don't have the problem, I was pretty sure it was not the tranny since the engine/throttle mapping changes in those modes. They should check your accelerator pedal and the throttle position sensor too. If the pedal has a dead spot in it, it could cause the engine software to go tilt.

I will pass this advice on as well. Thanks.

Follow up. No sensor is giving a fault. PCNA had them switch out a fuel throttle from another 991 to see if that alleviates it. No dice. They have sent a new gearbox and they are in the process of installing it now. Assuming it fixes it, tomorrow I should get it back, marking day 16 cumulative.

If not, I have to send a certified letter putting them on notice.

On the bright side, one tech has been doing all the work on my car, X51 included. He says after this is resolved, I should have no problems. He's pretty much rebuilt the car twice!

As reliant as these tech's are on error codes, I have seen a case where a CPS did NOT throw a fault code. However, after a pair were replaced the issue was resolved.
Strange, but true..

Couldn't agree more. These techs are trained to rely on error code from very incapable diags program

New transmission installed. Seems I am getting about 16k miles or so per tranny. Anyway, PDK updated too, so I also have the little Up arrow as well. It usually shows itself at about 2000rpms.

The good news, the jolts, jerks, and lurches are no longer present. The car stays steady at 600revs at idle in standard, 800 in the Sport modes. There is no dip I revs when moving from stop. The car is much smoother now than what I remember. This was a revelation I experienced simply by driving the loaner Cayman. I had 'gotten used to' the lurches that when I would reverse I was expecting the jump that never came. I hope you all never need to follow through with this drama.

The car is back to the way it was supposed to be. The tech, Walt, really tightened up the car. He did a great job. It took until day 16 for this to be resolved. Now I just want to go out and run the car. The Cayman, although pretty good and basic, just didn't have the punch I was used to.

Thanks

Hi Chup - when I'm in normal mode and shift manually from 1st to 2nd, there's a little lag but not much. And when I'm at a stop, tach is about 800 rpm, maybe a touch less. No drop when I move to accelerate. Steady readings. When I drove a 997.2GTS, actually the tach didn't drop on that one either.
