Help ordering new 2014 Carrera S options
Help ordering new 2014 Carrera S options
I ordered a new 991 S this week and I can still make changes to the order before it goes to Zuffenhausen in a few weeks. Please help me with the options I will really use. It will be a semi daily driver and maybe a little autocross/track very little.
You are going to get 1000 opinions from 1000 people. In the end, ask your dealer to be honest and have him suggest what he thinks you may need or want. Mine talked me out of PDCC thinking I would never track it, but did agree on Burmester. Now I want more and have tracked it. Can't say I miss the PDCC, never tried it.
Here are my quick recommendations:
Leather interior, don't bother with making everything leather.
Get a color you like interior and exterior
Like music, up for Burmester, otherwise stay base.
14 or 18 way seats. Get the regular seats unless you are a spirited driver or tracking occasionally.
Oh, Sport Chrono if PDK
Sport Exhaust or get a third party upgrade. The sounds it makes are just gravy.
Steering wheel, I got the multi-function as I like gadgets. Others like the sport design for the paddle shifts, buttons are growing on me.
Those are my opinions. Anything else you want is completely up to you. It's your new toy, make it the way you want ultimately.

I agree with chupacabra.
Everybody has differrent opinions and you should get what YOU want and like. There are of course some things to think about. For example the smoker's package (no cost option), do you want your rev counter grey (standard) or black (no cost option).
Then there are of course the "must haves", like PSE, Sport Chrono (if PDK). However, if those really are must haves, is something you have to decide for yourself.
Regarding the various leather interior choices. That can be a bit confusing sometimes. That's why I started this thread: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...explained.html
Most information about options, you'll find and see in the 3D configurator. Just take some time to figure out what you think is most important for you and if you have questions, you can always ask them here. There are always people to help.

Geo,
I recommend you start with a budget in mind. Then configure a car. Print out your configuration and go back to the Configurator and make changes to tweak it to your preferences and budget. There is something called "diminishing returns". Basically means that you get less reward for every dollar spent above the minimum amount to get a base car. However, it is much easier if you have the budget to go ahead and get the options that will make you happiest with your car. I spent over $67,000 in options. Then again, I was comparing my new Porsche to what I would have spent on a new R8 V10. Here is a link to my configuration http://www.porsche-code.com/PE4D1BE6

chupacabra- Thanks for your comments. Now why do I want a sport chrono? I have it in my 997 S and never use it. I ordered PDK with the sport steering wheel.

Then you want the Sport Chrono for Spprt+ and Launch Control. There is a whole thread about Sport Chrono on here. I think it's mandatory for a PDK car.

i just ordered my c2S, goes in production november. im second guessing other options i want to change, including color haha. one option i considered is the sport design mirrors. i read here that it eliminates the buffering noise when the windows are down. My order doesnt come with a sunroof as with past cars i never used. But before ordering i was dead on about getting the glass sunroof because i like the black roof on a contrasting color like white, red and yellow.
in my opinion i thought the sport car should feel like one on the inside. so i had racing yellow instruments and chrono. the seat belts in yellow would have been cool too but i found it unnecessary in the end.

Test drives are a must. After repeated back to back test drives I was able to determine that for me:
...PDCC was a must have.
...PSE was a must.
...SPASM was too harsh for me.
...Power Steering Plus was a nice bargain.
...Instrument Dials in Black were easier to read.
...Ventilated Seats are awesome.
...Park Assist was indeed handy.
...Sport Design Wheel with paddles worked better for me.
Before I actually experienced these options in person I was lost.

I've ridden in two Carreras back to back on the track and driven back to back on the street. The technology is amazing and really works well. The cornering is so flat it's incredible and definitely noticable.
Here was my thought process...I first experienced it on the track first and since I do a handful of track events a year I thought it would be great to have but didn't order it initially because of the cost. Hard to rationalize for just a few track days a year. THEN I experienced it on the street and the difference was still pretty amazing. Virtually no body roll to throw you about in your seat. The difference just isn't at high speed. A quick 30mph corner and its obviously flatter and easier to handle. Plus, and this is just a butt-meter feel, the PDCC car seemed to hit the straight line tar strips with less thunk as well. So I was sold on the technology. I called my dealer and added it to my order.

There is one thing I do wonder, though. Is the straight line ride (tar strips/pot holes) of SPASM with PDCC smoother (softer) than SPASM alone?
How much of the extra firmness felt in SPASM is from the springs and how much is from the upgraded (non PDCC) sway bars?
So does the PDCC sway bar technology make SPASM less harsh?
