PCM Crash
PCM Crash
My PCM is regularly crashing when I use the small dash screen to change between CD tracks. If I use the touchscreen everything works perfectly well but if I try and change tracks with the steering wheel column mounted lever then the PCM freezes then crashes and reboots.
It's not really a big deal since I prefer to use the touchscreen anyway but I was wondering if anyone else experienced that issue.

I had the system software updated today from 4.40 to 4.52, these are my observations so far. Speakers sound better balanced. I am not sure if its me but the steering feels a little more direct and a touch heavier. Bluetooth streaming issues appear resolved. I had them work on a rear seat rattle, but shortly after driving I could hear it again. I doubled checked on the PDK update, and was told WD09 is the current version. It is definitely noticeable as mentioned in other threads, no lag and better shift points.
Any update on this from anyone? Wanted to know which version crash and which is the latest version? I guess the question is, why does it crash?

A few weeks back I was told by the service department that they were still waiting on an update for the PCM software that will solve that problem. They are well aware of the issue.
I have a build from July 2013 for a 2014 991. I haven't gotten any updates yet as I haven't brought it in for the first service yet. I've had it reboot twice today for no reason. I was just playing a CD and tried fast forward it and rebooted. Then I had my vehicle off, turned it on..it didn't play anything, then it rebooted for no reason. Odd to figure out the pattern here. And no, I didn't have an ipod or anything plugged in.
In three and a half months of owning a 991 (Feb. 2014 build), the PCM rebooted twice, during MP3 playback off a USB stick. It never rebooted while doing anything else - radio or SiriusXM or nav. At 60 days of ownership, the car went in for a free wellness check offered by my dealer, and the PCM firmware was updated at that time. I have not had any reboots since then, but two weeks ago, at ignition one morning, the center screen stayed black, though the music was still playing. I shut off the car and restarted it, and the screen was fine.
I still notice occasional weird volume related stuff, where the volume when the car starts in the morning is low but not muted, and barely goes up when. I increase the volume. Then, I'll change stations, than all of a sudden, the volume is extremely loud. It's happened 4 or 5 times, both before and after the PCM upgrade.
I should add that I have a completely stock car, no fussing of the electrical system with radar detectors or custom audio.

But in reality, nothing in itself worth a specific trip to the dealer...
Just an FYI for anyone still having this problem. I was experiencing this issue earlier this year but it only happened occasionally so I just left it alone. Then during thanksgiving time, over the course of 1 trip it crashed like continuously. So I decided to bring it in. Not sure if dealer was pulling my leg, but the day I brought it in, the advisor told me the permanent fix update came in the day before. And any versions prior to this one was just a temporary fix. It's been a month and I have not experienced any crashes, only weird thing I have seen in the latest version is the navigator map screen goes black (2 times thus far), which comes back if I just switch to another mode and back. Better than a pcm crash I guess.
