Car Wash
As the owner of two "young" teenage girls I must say I would have to flatten all the tires and key the car of the poster of the pictures. Why don't we say... hmmm... some 25 year old models in bikinis. I don't think I would mind that quite as much.
Here's a different take on the subject. I'm no fanatic at all about my cars. If they get washed at all, it's at a commercial car wash. The one I use has tracks, and darned if I've seen any problems. Then again, I don't bother to look very closely. My view (heresy!) is that it's just a car, albeit a nice one. I buy Porsches to drive them, not to obsess about their appearance. My 991S is a regular autocross/DE car, and I scrape the air dam everywhere I go. (It has S-PASM and the lower front dam.) My Panamera is my ski car, so lots of (dirty) milesin the mountains. Both my cars have 20" wheels. The only washes my 991S and 970GTS have ever received have been at the dealer or at a car wash. They're only cars, for Heaven's sake!

A Toyota is only a car.... a Honda is only a car.... a Porsche is a passion. It is also a 100k++ investment of hard earned capital. I for one don't take that lightly. Maybe financially it's no big deal for you but it is a commitment and a passion for me and a lot of others so excuse us if we "baby" our toys a little bit.

And I take it to the auto track washes, no problems. Have an 11 4S now and do the same.
When I sold the 07 I kept thinking, why didn't I drive it more...and I put 15k on it in the first year.
I Love the analogy somebody used, it's like having a Supermodel wife and not partaking, so you will keep her nice and tight for the next guy.
I think you totally misunderstand. Would you take your supermodel wife to a sports cut place to get her hair done or to a real beauty salon? If your answer is to a sports cut place then you didn't marry what you thought you did.
Agreed,,,,your suggestion sounds much better

I can't say I wash my toy cars too often, but I do wash them myself with a good deal of care.
Main thing for the OP is to get his car washed where he feels comfortable with it, track or not.

Keeping your Porsche spotless no dents no scratches, is probably your passion. To each his own.
But my Supermodel wife takes her husband (me) to Sport Clips!! She married what she thought she did.lol...
Honestly, because it's more interesting than the thread.. I suspect anyone who owns a Porsche, this isn't the first car ever owned.. And if they haven't determined the types of car washes that will or won't hurt their car it's unlike to convince them of anything new.. Personally I appreciate a sprinkling of levity especially when the thread goes on for pages and on and at some point offers nothing new...

Zelig, sorry to hear about your back troubles. You might be able to find a hand wash place that's comparable in price to the automated car washes. Personally I am obsessive compulsive about my paint and even though my local hand wash place does a good job I won't let them wash my car either. I will in emergencies use the touchiness wash that's near my house. It does a decent job, but pretty much will strip any wax or LSp that's on the car. If your 991 isn't a daily driver you could get a way with using the touchless and use Sonax on your rims as it's pretty good removing break dust with out having to use a brush.
Does anyone use an auto car wash for their Boxsters? The ones where you stay in your car and the car is sprayed with soap and water and then dried. Does the high pressure spray cause any leaks. I usually wash the car myself but had a bad shoulder injury and still recovering from surgury after frickin 6 months. (Thankfully I can till wash myself in the shower
). I get it detailed twice a year (the car not my body) but is 200 bucks a pop. If bad idea, I will wash it with one arm I guess. Or eat an extra Advil before washing. How we suffer for these cars.
