997.2 TT or 991 4S help
What christophosphorus said, I concur. For daily drivability, unflappable handling and 2 completely different cars (GT and pure sports)drivability plus peace of mind in winter, go for 4S. Just to add IMHO, 4/4S is thus far best looking 991, period --perhaps I'm little biased too
I have had the 997 TT with the metzger engine and loved it. Have not experienced the new engine. I'm sure I'm going to like the 4S. I just don't want to regret the loss of oomph. I'll drive both and go with my gut. PDK is not an option though.
If I have AWD in a 911 it better be a Turbo !! The 4S with options can cost as much as a base Turbo and at that price level the Turbo S is proportionally pennies more.
UNLESS having a manual gearbox is a must my vote goes to the Turbo.
That said .. the least expensive option is to keep the Panamera and buy NOTHING . One can either satisfy that (quoting the Op) "lusting" for a "kick in the pants" 911 in two ways : 1) buy the Turbo S or 2) keep the savings and buy the 185K car a few years from now as a CPO when they cost 120 (less than a new 4S BTW) .

Then again, Im more of a GT3 guy…thats the next Pcar on the list.
When you add the options that everyone seems to get, the 991 Turbo will be much more then an optioned 991 C4S, I know this because I own a 991 C4S and considered the Turbo for brief time. The Turbo and Turbo S have always been big $$$$.

Here is a modest spec Turbo . It costs 158K. http://www.porsche-code.com/PETKMYA7
Here is a modest speced C4S . It costs nearly 135K . I did place full leather on it because it comesstandard on a Turbo . I did not place cermacics on it but they are standard on a Turbo S. There is not one fancy option (no stitching, no carbon fiber , no Burmester) . http://www.porsche-code.com/PEVG8TW6
In fact if I were to buy a 991 I might also consider a manual but in a Turbo PDK is the only choice and it would be MY choice even if a manual was offered .
I really get the lure of the PDK trans. I have been driving it for 2 years after 4 TT's all manual. It's quick and efficient and may be a choice for a TT down the road. Right now I have too much A.D.D. and need the manual interaction to keep me from losing concentration. I am going to get out over the next few weekends to drive the 4S. I'll let you know my preference.
If you want a manual the 997.2 TT is for you.
That is the perfect car to mark the end of an era.
It does a lot with a lot using honest technology.
991 is the perfect model of efficiency.
It does a lot with very little using computer controlled everything technology.
Both are great.
One represents the future and the other preserves a glorious past.
