I went from 997.2 PDK to 991 manual and love it.... It changes the whole character of the car. I don't race so don't need to have maximum acceleration....

 

BTW, I hated PDK on my 997.2 so much that I got rid of it in 2 months!
I love the PDK on the 991! Entirely a different setup and feel between the two.

 

Here are the official findings to your question and the proverbial dead horse that has been beaten, flogged and molested beyond recognition.

1. That they are different.
2. Neither is better - they are just different.
3. It is NOT an automatic, it is a PDK and it's different.
4. Only you and you alone can determine which of these two "different" transmissions is right for you.

A Google search on "Manual vs PDK" will lead you to the carcass and grave site of the horse in question.

Another Porsche site (which shall remain nameless) is still relentlessly beating this horse after 27 pages and almost 400 clearly insane "expert" opinions.

Why is the term "automatic" offensive to some. "It's NOT an automatic!". If you move it from P, put it in D and drive without using your left foot to operate a clutch pedal, it's automatic and there is nothing wrong with automatics.

 

Because PDK is *not* a conventional automatic transmission. PDK does not have a torque converter and is a dual-clutch transmission. Lots of differences to discuss, but that's the basis of the "it's not an auto" argument.

 

Clearly the blatant sarcasm in my statement has missed its intended target.
I even capitalized the word "NOT" to help drive the stake into the dead horse.

Perhaps if I had stated that I'm a manual diehard, the sarcasm would have been more apparent.

All train wrecks are entertaining. This is particularly true when the train is fully automated as opposed to one that is under manual control by a skilled engineer......
