Add Multifunction Steering Wheel
Add Multifunction Steering Wheel
My 2014 long awaited Porsche 911 4S which I custom ordered came in, but the multifunction steering wheel was unchecked by mistake by the dealer. It has the PDK and standard shift controls in the leather covered steering wheel. Is it possible to order the multifunction and swap them, or, do I need them to order a new car if I want it? Is all of the wiring built into the steering column? Thanks.
Thanks all. I will call Suncoastparts on Monday. My dealer seems to be having difficulty confirming that the replacement is possible and says that they need to call the Factory in Germany. Does anyone know where else the instructions or specs might be available? I checked on the Suncoastparts website and could not find any. If you know someone who has done this, I would appreciate the info.
I custom built the car with most options as I buy a car infrequently, and this my first Porsche. The car is anthracite brown with an espresso leather interior. The steering wheel is in leather, not the wood like on the Suncoastparts website. The dealer offered to order a new car, but that would take me out yet another 3-4 months. They also want to charge me over $3,000 +labor for the steering wheel if they order it from the factory, if this is doable.
For Fester, I would prefer not to post the name of the dealership on the website. Thanks.

Why? This was their mistake for not checking the box, correct?? If it were me and they were to charge $3G's I'd wait the 3 months and get a new one built. PS - do not think the wiring is in and that they would need to add, which is why I would get a new one built.

Another highfalutin Porsche dealer tries to strike again.....
When I ordered my car I asked and received both the dealer submitted order and the factory confirmation the dealer received. Just to make sure the order is/was what I was asking for. One time, a dealer screwed up and ordered a Coupe for me when I was ordering a Targa. Fortunately someone at the distributorship level was aware of the order and confirmed with me the dealer error and fixed it.
I don't think asking who the dealer is when they haven't been able to get the info yet to try and sort out is appropriate.

The dealer should be able to order and install the wheel at only the cost of the original order. If they are not capable of doing so and you want this feature, I suggest you tell them to order you a new car with the features you are requesting.
It is easier for them to switch it out than to take a chance that you change your mind by having to wait.
Ultimately, it all depends on whether you want the option or not.

Thanks for the follow-up. This is all very helpful. I talked with Suncoast today and they can order the wheel - it would be special ordered. However, there may be a control unit that is required, plus removing the multifunction lever and replacing it with something that managed the other controls that are built into the existing lever. The dealer is still looking into the situation. Thanks.
