mastered the 6th to 7th shift?

So I've had my C2S a couple of weeks, and only had about a half dozen drives in it. Yesterday finally had a chance to cruise a bit in 7th gear.

I've have to admit I haven't found the knack yet for shifting from 6th to 7th gear. The lock-out only seems to allow me to go from 5th to 7th.

Maybe I'm trying too hard, or just don't know when/where to press to the right, but just haven't got the technique down yet. Only thing that seemed to work is going 6-5-7.

Book (pg 168) says "7th gear can only be selected from an engaged 5th or 6th gear (see illustration, white/yellow line)."

Any tips from fellow 7MT'ers?

In the first few weeks I had the same issue. It seemed like the six to seven gate was not working right. After about 300-400 miles it is fine now and the shift works easily. I think it just needs a little breaking in. Follow the book, after six just give it an easy push up to the right and it will start to just go right into seventh gear more easily each time you do it successfully..enjoy. It is the best manual I've ever had.

Interesting. The book has a paragraph that says:

Shifting from 7th to 6th gear
Guide the gear lever with slight pressure to the right from 7th into 6th gear.

You think this was actually meant to say "shifting from 6th to 7th"?

No, the book is actually correct otherwise you'll end up in 4th.
Trust me on that one.

I could never make the 7-6 shift in one motion, so I now simply come out of 7th to the neutral gate and then apply pressure to the right and down.

As far as 6-7, mine is pretty effortless. You may need an adjustment if it doesn't gradually come around.

I think it should improve with break-in. I'm closing in on 5k miles, and not that I have too many opportunities to cruise in 7th in the NYC area, but I have no problem with the 6-7 shift.

No problem for me to shift from 6th to 7th. However, shifting down from 7th to 6th I find to require more attention. It's easy to end up in 4th.

Haha yeah, exactly! It's so slick and precise with a little right side pressure and down.

Man I love this transmission. 7th-2nd and anything else is second nature after a few thousand miles.

No problems here. Just pretend you're shifting from 4th to 5th, but give it more of an angle toward the right. It slides right into 7th with ease.

For the downshift, follow the aforementioned pointer: pull the shifter down while slightly pulling it toward the RIGHT side. It'll slide right into 6th.

I have a much bigger issue from 7th down to 5th (i've rarely found a situation where i need to go from 7th to 6th. If i'm in 7th, i'm cruising on the highway. if i need to shift out it's because i just hit traffic or am exiting the highway, in which case i don't need 6th). When trying to go from 7th to 5th, there's so much pressure on the shifter for it to go left, then it almost always finds 3rd. i find i have to look down at the gear indicator in the tachometer to see where i'm notched before i release the clutch and make a big mistake.

Easiest way to avoid this would be to pull the shifter down into neutral, and then pretend you're just shifting straight into 5th.
