im considering purchasing a 2006-2007 911. I was wondering what after market turbo kit would be best for the non turbo 997.

You would be biting off so much more than you could imagine.. By the time you were done with it you will likely end up spending more than you would just getting a comparable turbo of the same era..

I'm sure I will be corrected if I'm wrong, as I haven't seen it done with a 997 or 991 engine.... but converting the engine itself would be a complete teardown.. in general when you turbocharge a normal engine there are stresses that are placed on the engine components and drive train that aren't designed to handle.. Also the compression ratio of a turbo charged engine is lower (to account for the turbocharging) so you have different pistons etc.. It is more than just bolting on a turbo charger, and if you could/did you'd likely break something pretty quick...

In short if you were to attempt such a thing you'd end up probably swapping out the entire engine and transmission.. and replacing with something else.. Not saying it can't be done but at some point it becomes a why would you want to.. unless it is just something you want to do.

As far as reliable, ihave a friend who has a turbo 997 and one that had a 997 c4s and had a turbo put on. Both have not had any problems and the aftermarket one is faster

 

Yea that's what I was reading. I accidentally posted in the 991 area instead of the 911/997. I will be making some calls on Monday and seeing if I can get more info from the manufacture of the kit

@scatkins I will be purchasing the 997 not the 991. High compression will work with LOW boost. 3-4 psi Would be ok on stock internals for most higher end cars, as long as Porsche is able to hold it, from what I have been reading, there haven't been many issues.

 

It is definitely Interesting, and as a bolt on as well.. They certainly have a good story, but the engineer in me is naturally suspicious.. I can see how it could work with lower boost, but that tends to limit the torque and hp output as well.. But then I start to wonder how cooked their data is.. Right off the bat when I look at their data I start to wonder as I see dramatically lower humidity and temp combination, so they've compared a baseline under typical atmospheric conditions to the turbo with much more advantageous.. (Dryer air and cooler temp).. Is it significant? I don't know but if I were trying to do a fair comparison I'd at least perform under similar conditions...

That said it is indeed interesting..... Even if slightly overstated..
