Adding Sport Chrono
R, "glitz"?... the dealer needs to get some tech training from Porsche. To make a blanket statement like that to a customer is IMO irresponsible. Did they just want to sell you what they had on the floor?
Don't forget that Sport Plus also maps a more aggressive throttle and fuel injection program. The rich fuel mixture during overrun helps to contribute to the aggressive pops and gurgles of the engine.
There is a lot of hype over the mounts and admittedly it's why I wanted SC.
However, has anyone tried a similar suspension/engine/transmission 991, with the standard mounts and found it to be a problem?
I am sure the standard mounts are designed well enough.
It's not like the 3.8 is a torque monster

I don't have the Sport Chrono on my 7MT car and honestly I don't miss it.
Now if my car had PDK then I'd definitely want the Sport Chrono for the Sport Plus PDK mapping and Launch Control feature.

It's important to know your customer and I was the easiest sale. I did not have to be convinced and would have purchased anything 911…just take my money please, who do I write the check out to and for what amount..you want more money, just fine with me.
We spent a lot of time going over my plans for the car and the available options. They provided me with owners manuals before I purchased and fielded every question call or email I made and there were loads. They made their head tech available to me for any questions or concerns too.
That said, in consideration of my proposed use and our discussions, I purchased my car I wanted. 27K miles later, I'm still smiling.
Could they have sold me a GT3 or Turbo? Absolutely. I was in a buying mood and this was a toy I had lusted for for decades.
SC glitz…? for me yeah. For someone else? that's for them to determine.

I won't answer your question with the techy babble as there's enough of it available on the net. I'd rather give you my take on it from the perspective of why someone buys a 911. Which for me is all about handling. I do most of my 911 driving on curving country roads. I do not track my car.
The physics of the rear mounted engine on 911's have always had an effect on the stability (especially the rear end), and handling of these cars. The effects are noticed at varying speeds and are a lot to do with loads, angles, direction, and road conditions. As you know Porsche have been dealing with these challenges and unpredictable effects over many decades. The introduction of technologies such as PDCC, PTV, PSM etc. have all been steps to improve the driving experience and the introduction of the Dynamic Engine Mounts is another positive step in improving the handling.
Is it noticeable? For me, an emphatic YES. Optimal handling is of primary importance to me and is the reason I bought a 911. Anything that helps, and is affordable, will always be included on my options list.
IMO, whether you track the car or not, if handling is of significant importance to you, the engine mounts make a noticeable difference.

It probably gives you a nice "lift throttle" response too! On autocross, a tight set of engine mounts makes a huge difference. Really helps to get the nose under control, and positions the weight accurately. I'm definitely "in" on the SC option!
Sport and plus modes are nice especially with PDK. You can add those after delivery. Not sure about the clock. I use sport and sport plus every day. I never use the the clock and the last time I used launch control was probably 2 weeks after I bought it...it's cool and all but you won't use it
I say make sure the car you purchase has everything you want. You don't want to regret a $100-125k purchase.
