Would you mod your car to GT3 look?
This is my first post in this forum. I have been reading for a while because I'm planning on buying my first porsche next year (GT3), and I want to learn as much as possible.
I respectfully disagree. I wouldn't view everyone that owns a GT3 as wanting attention. The reason that I plan on buying one, is to have a factory car that is made for the track. And since I track my cars every month of the year, I believe the GT3 is the perfect car for that.

Welcome, and well stated.
Without having to justify reasons to buy a GT3, the points made by several members about the GT3 being just for posers or those wanting to be noticed is of course nonsense. I rarely track but have access to great roads that can take advantage of the handling characteristists of a car such as a GT3. Furthermore I just adore the technology and engineering of the car and love the aesthetics. If those were not reasons enough, I'd also like to drool over it in my garage!
Mine gets here in a few months and it's got nothing to do with posing.
Not a big fan of making car look like something it is not, but am into mods. Saw this GT3 rear bumper on ebay that would look great on my car I think -- nice and aggressive. Would of course remove the GT3 emblem if I were to go ahead and get it

Rear Bumper
I really like the GT3 rear, if they make it with the rear cut outs for dual twin exhaust tips I would seriously think about getting one, I think the air cuts give the rear end a more aggressive look, especially if you have a standard rear mobile wing, no duck tail or alternative.

It is all really just a matter of what you want. If you have a 991 and want to make it look like a GT3, go for it. It is your money. But in the end you will have a 991 worth no more money than when you started.
For the price of making a 991 look like a GT3, I would just wait and buy a GT3 will all the standard goodies it comes with.
And to think anyone owning a GT3 is necessarily desperate for attention is just rubbish. You could say that about all 911/911 variant owners. Sorry, but most of the rest of the world that sees you in your base looking, badgeless 911 thinks you are an A-hole simply because you can afford the car in the first place, regardless of the type, spoiler, badging, or anything else. Removing badging from a 911 may make you feel better, but really doesn't change anything for anyone else.

911 is a sports car and should look like one. There is nothing wrong with the GT3 looks IMO, w/o a body kit, it just looks plain. Some people just don't want the GT3, to harsh, no rear seats, hard clutch (previous gen), no AWD, etc. The only problem I see is if you badge it as a GT3, GT3 stickers everything than it's a different story.
Nope. My car looks better than a GT3. Moreover, a GT3 design to me basically says look at me because I desperately need attention but you would probably expect a guy, who chooses a gray car to eschew the GT3 markings. Heck I took the S badge off and sometimes wonder if I should take the Porsche markings off, too. :roll eyes: Apologies to my GT3 brethren.
.
.
But in terms of people wanting attention, purposely buying a gray car (just like mine, but mine is gorgeous) and removing your own badges in order to "don't look at me" suggests that you have a real reverse-snobbery thing going on yourself. What are you trying to compensate for?
My $.02.. and admittedly I'm a minimalist..
But No clue as to why anyone would want to make something that it isn't.. just seems very wanta'be to me..
Although, I think most of the aftermarket body alteration/mods I see for 991's posted here do nothing but detract from the car itself (again I'm a minimalist).. and it just seems more of can't leave well enough along.. ,,,, That said I can see someone with a vision who wants their off of the lot car to be something very personalized.. or maybe it is truly for performance reasons..
But I just think if you want a GT3, then buy one... putting lots of red lipstick on a pig.. results in a pig with red lipstick on it.. regardless of how pretty the pig looks..
I suppose it might make a bit more sense when a car has a few years on it... upgrading some things.. Akin to remodeling a house I suppose. But it just seems there is a fine line between minor cosmetic surgery touch up here and there... but I've seen way too many things where someone couldn't just realize the limits.. It's always amusing to see someone proudly driving their Nissan Sentra with a giant aftermarket spoiler on it..
So the short answer for me would be never...
