New Targa pics - practically undisguised
Ugly...
Never got the point of Targa's... and now when I see anything of that style it reminds me of a 1978 smokey and the Bandit Trans Am...
Hey can we but a flaming chicken on the hood of the 911 Targa too..?

I'm not sure I understand the rationale of offering the Targa in AWD guise only. I can't say I'm against the looks of a targa top 911 and I would imagine that it offers more structural rigidity than the cabriolet. We'll have to see how much the targa weighs in comparison to the cab. There might be another advantage there.
Well it all really comes down to market demand...
who knows.. maybe they did some marketing and found out some segment of the world likes Targa's...
Probably not to hard to produce it as a variant of the cpe..
But jeezz.. one more variant... if it was a breakfast cereal I'd swear they were just trying to get shelf space with so many variants...
To do a targa version then that means at least 4 more models? (C2, C2S, C4, C4S)...

Autocar posted a few spy shots of the new targa. The car looks good but I have a question. With the introduction of the glass roof on 991's what exactly is the point of a Targa? Sure more wind and light but is the experience a lot different? The question I ask is out of genuine interest as I have never owned a targa.

As for my opinion --I tend to fall in the camp of coupe or cab . I don't care for the middle compromise as it could never really be either . On a 911 I prefer the structural benefits of a coupe as a personal choice for this vehicle.
I speculate that a targa could be priced at or near base Turbo territory and even with a Gt3 pricing. It's just not for me !!

To those who commented on the Smokey decal, all I can say is Porsche design take notice! I expect a black Smokey limited edition to be added to the lineup soon!
Y, thanks for the post. It's my point as well. I don't quite get it.... you either get a cab for the entire open air experience or get a sunroof for a partial one. Unless Porsche are targeting the nostalgic buyer, for me the targa is a bit of a conundrum.
It's bizarre to see the split roof on such a modernized 911 .The old school Targa had an almost convertible feel with the roof removed and a coupe like feel with it secured . The 997 car was ridiculous .The 997 Targa was like a giant sunroof which could rattle or leak .

I'm pretty sure it's cloth covered.
[QUOTE=chance6;4015954]A targa with a power kit in basalt black metallic. Yep. I dig it.[/QUOTE
Precisely! Am considering this car exactly - with the new classic (Fuch) 20" wheels and a stick - with set of snow tires for the winter and keep my 993tt for weekends. Not getting a stick is the 2nd biggest obstacle to my firming up on my TTS order (1st being price)...but I am still a minority (wanting a stick).
