The PDK may be faster, but I'm smoother
Mine is not really all that lurchy in stop and go driving. Just a teeny bit. And I agree, it is not as smooth as shifting a MT yourself !

Shift for fun, auto for serious driving and lazy driving. Flexibility is one of the benefits of PDK. The other comes between 40 and 80K miles when you replace the clutch for $3+K.

Same here. "Sport" shifts @3k (to little) and "Sport +" shifts @7k (to much). I manually shift at 4-5 k

I use auto mode while the car is warming up (at least first mile or two). Then I would normally shift manually. Once I open either Sport or Sport + then it's always manual (try driving in the city with Auto and Sport + sometime - hopeless in my opinion). Also use manual mode virtually exclusively on my 996 Turbo/Tip. Installed a "paddle" shifting wheel on that car to make the shifting easier. On my 650 Cab (DD) I use auto almost exclusively except for downshifting.

I'm using full auto much more often that I expected to… honestly it is very good and quite responsive when you depress the accelerator.

But once warmed up, I prefer switching to Sport mode and shifting manually with paddles <- this is how I drive 70% of the time once warmed up.

If I really want to have fun, Sport+ and exclusively in manual mode.

When I get into my DD (M3 manual) I regret not having the M-DCT (since buying the Porsche… before that I didn't know what I was missing).

I've had lots of stick shift cars in the last 40 years, but my last 3 991's and my 2 Panameras have all been PDK's.

I first met a PDK 911 at the PSDS classes I attended in 2009 when PDK was brand new. We spent most of our time in stick shifts, but they gave us an opportunity to try their brand new 911S PDK's on the track at Barber. Cass Whitehead told us to go out there and shift manually for a few laps, and then sit back and let it shift for you.

When we were done, he asked what we thought. We were all blown away by the PDK. Cass told us that many of his instructors just put it in D and forget about it - it's really that good. And that was first generation PDK - it's gotten better.

I'm an AX and HPDE instructor with PCA. On track in my 991S, I put it in Sport Plus and D and go drive. I hardly ever feel the need to shift manually on the track.

On the street I'll play with the paddles and the shift lever with the car in sport, mostly because the sport exhaust and sound symposer sound so great. But if I'm driving seriously, it's in D and I'm focused on other matters. PDK can take care of the shifting for me. And it never ever ever misses a shift!

I have yet to buy a car with a PDK , SMG, DCT etc; and want to avoid it at all costs... I am considering a pre-owned lambo/ferrari but the F1 and E-gear scare the **** out of me...

3 pedals for me , may end up with a 991S over the rest for that reason !
