Zelig is infamous around these parts
After 3 years I traded my 997 C4S out for an M3 cause it felt "slow". Couldn't get the 997 to push me back into the my seat when I nailed it. However the M3's clutch was awful and I bought a fully optioned 991 C2S.

The 991 loaded car rules even with all the weight. Just as torquey as my M3 with its superb V8 engine but the 991 is much better all around.

I struggle a bit with all the buzz going on about "991's are underpowered", "991's are too expensive", etc. If people think it's too slow: don't buy it. Too expensive: don't buy it. Vote with your wallet, it's the only kind of vote that really works and were you vote is not overturned by a majority of idiots
Serge you hit the nail on the head. You can approach performance from several different angles and Porsche's high performance cars have done a good job with weight. With federal and state mandates (C.A.R.B. ) ramping up regulations, it is going to be imperative for performance car manufacturers to concentrate on weight saving areas in order to achieve the required mpg goals.
By contrast, other manufacturers in an effort to compete performance-wise have simply thrown horse power at their cars instead of looking at weight savings measures, hence the tag line “can pigs fly.” Yes, pigs can fly. For example, I was a big fan of BMW's M3 and owned an E36 that weighed 3200 lbs, then an E46 cab that weighed 3800 lbs!! and finally an E46 coupe that weighed 3400 lbs. BMW's next model, the E92, ended up weighing between 3600 – 3700 + lbs depending on options in coupe form. That's when I stopped buying BMWs. The new M6 weighs over 4200 lbs, the Aventador 4000 +, etc...and the list goes on.
Some of you have obviously taken offense to this thread and I'm not sure why, perhaps you thought this thread was a direct attack on our beloved 911. Many of you don't pay attention to weight and how options can effect weight, hence performance and I respect that. People buy Porsches for different reasons. Hopefully this clarifies my position.

I will make an obvious point nobody has made yet: weight matters a lot more on the track than on the street, so your intended use will matter a lot. It's much easier to justify on the street the difference between 3800-4300lb sports cars with barca lounger seats (M6), electric pop up fans (F-type) etc. and a ~3200 lbs 911. On the track, that extra weight wreaks havoc on your brakes and tires and handling near the limit. When Car and Driver tested the Aventador last year in Best Driver's car, they cooked the brakes on the second lap!
