Turbo Targa
Turbo Targa
I know that a few have said that a Turbo Targa "definitely wasn't happening" but I noticed twhat looks like a Turbo Targa around 30 seconds into the Porsche intro video. Any thoughts?
I am one of those people that said, it won't come, but this definitely looks like a Turbo Targa! Makes me very curious if and when it's going to happen.
Great find! Thanks for posting!

Great catch......def looks like turbo intake. Body lines match up.
But what is the weight of a Targa Turbo gonna be??? It's gonna be as heavy as my SUV!!!
In terms of looks, the Targa is absolutely stunning and IMO the best looking 991 so far. In terms of appeal, it gets ruined by that roof construction. It's a shame that they didn't put two simple detachable panels on that car. For me THE big argument for not wanting one....

I hope they keep it and get rid of the spoiler (which doesn't work anyways IMO, because of the roof construction).

Suzy991, I normally agree with you, but not on this. Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I love the technology behind the roof and the throw-back role bar and bubble glass window. I don't see the fact that it is not manual as a detraction. Again, that is just another gearhead's opinion.
I do agree with you that it may be the coolest 991 yet and that the spoiler would be just that - it would spoil the look. What I am a little surprised at is the there are no options in how the car would look. I like the throw-back look. But friends have commented that they would prefer just one body color. and, I do wonder, since the targa top is really just a metal sheet wrapped in cloth (and that cloth is a pain to take care of - my cab made me hate all birds), perhaps a sold roof panel - also black for throwback or body color.

If they had decided to do normal panels, they could have made them from various materials, such as glass, metal or cloth-covered metal. More options....
Now they can only make it is cloth covered metal, because otherwise it would look very odd (asymetrical), because the panel actually has two seperate pieces of metal. The rear part folds below the front part, before the roof is folded away behind the seats. There would be an odd looking line between, if tit were metal or glass panels.
With two sperate nin-automatic panels, there would have also been a line of course, but that would have been symetrical in the middle, which looks better. A lightweight one-piece roof would have been the best solution of course, but that's not practical and wouldn't fit in the frunk.
I don't know... I'm quite disappointed to be honest. I really, really like the looks of the Targa, but the roof-system takes away 50% of the appeal for me, as far as I can judge it now... Maybe I need to get used to it and see the car in person first.

I also love the technology they put in there, but i think it's over-enigineered. It doesn't add much functionallity, but an awful lot of weight and parts that can brake. Yes, you can stay in the car, but you have to stop the car anyways to operate the roof. Taking two panels out would've taken just equally as much time than the roof needs to fold away.

No can do. If you look closely, the roof is designed to fold a bit on the way back to it's storage area.
Check out around :52 seconds.

Hey Michael! Those crazy German engineers needed a project anyway. I'm sure that they could come up with something - and marketing could definitely come up with a sky high option price! Heck, knowing Porsche, I will bet that you can get the roof wrapped in leather with contrasting stitching!
But def is a cool car even if no TT version.
I kind of like the nod to the older version with the silver and the bubble window. Not sure about the cloth. I can't wait to see it is person. The other problem is that optioned as my current car is, it is about $145k (a lot more for Suzy - regulations over there are not the only thing that is crazy). That is starting to be a lot of money. Add another 10k for clear bra, radar, wheel package ( a must on our local roads, and the remote button that lets your put up the top without being in the car, oh and taxes - it costs money to divert traffic from the GW Bridge - and you are in Turbo land.

I agree with you about the weight of the Targa - it's kind of a bummer.
But I will forget about that extra weight every time I look at it. Remember that the Targa isn't all about performance, it's also about style.
And although it is one of the heaviest 911's available, it probably won't top 3,600 lbs which is still lighter than my old e46 M3 convertible was at 3,800 lbs.
