Any 991 owners driven/own 2013-2014 Viper?
Any 991 owners driven/own 2013-2014 Viper?
I read big praise for the Generation V Vipers, especially the "Time Attack", but also the other versions too.
The older ones were crude, but these new cars are touted as being
completely different & street driver friendly.
Only personal experience please.
Thanks!

Great....
Since you've owned a couple earlier models, how about a comparison v the new cars v 991(S) or similar? Quality of build, drivability etc
Recent preview of the upcoming Corvette C7 Z06 + Z07 option has piqued my curiosity.
Thanks!

I currently own a gen 3 and gen 4 viper ACR. I have also owned a 997 tt among other pcars and currently have 991 4S. I believe all cars are different and serve their own purpose. Also, I have been able to drive the current gen V viper at length. I've owned Lamborghini and Ferrari, but prefer the engineering of Porsche.
The Gen V is more refined than any other Viper, but the driving experience is completely different than a pcar. For a dd, nothing beats porsche's feel and reliability. The viper is a high hp/torque car and you always feel it right away. It attracts a lot of attention, on par with my previous lambos/fcars. The handling is very good, and a skilled driver will be faster around a track than most other cars. An unskilled driver will say the car is crap.
My ACR is will slaughter my current 991 4S, killed my tt, and you will pry the keys from my dead body. It is a very rewarding car to drive if YOU like to drive(not the car covering up all your mistakes-aka gtr,991, etc).
I never even considered a Viper until I drove one at the track(bought my first one a day after). If you get a chance, drive one, just remember what the car is and be honest with the comparisons.

The Viper TA is a dedicated track weapon, so as others have indicated this particular Viper will not be as street friendly. Ralph Gilles touted the GTS with its 2 way suspension as the wine touring car in soft setting and track beast in stiff setting. The 2013 GTS did not live up to this characterization as the softest setting was best suited for the track while the stiffest setting was just that, too stiff. Ralph said wait for the 2014 GTS as this problem would be fixed.
Although much more refined than previous generation Vipers, it is raw compared to the 991. I pulled my deposit and purchased a 991S w/X51 for many reasons, but one deciding factor was dealership representation and actual experience. Chrysler was pretty strict in selecting which Dodge dealerships could sell and service the new Viper. When you have a chance, drop by a supporting dealer and talk to the GM, Service Mngr. and newly trained mechanic. I did and it did not inspire confidence. The new Viper has not sold well so you can find them for $20,000 - $30,000 of MSRP, which is an insanely good deal by any standard.
