PCM text messages/e-mails

I have an iPhone 4S which I believe has the Message Access Profile (MAP) required for displaying texts and e-mails on the PCM, but have had no success in getting the messages to actually show up. The PCM goes through the message transfer routine when I activate it, but nothing comes in.

Have others done this successfully?

Thanks.

Go to your iPhone settings, click on Bluetooth/PCM and select i and turn "show notifications" on. This is off by default. Let me know how it goes.

Hi Jasper, thanks for that. I can now receive text messages that come in while the phone is paired with the PCM.

Still no luck on receiving e-mails, but having the text capability is great.

Unfortunately, but it would work just fine with an Android though. Not enough to make me switch, I am an Apple fanboy.

I wonder if the iPhone fix needs to come from Apple or from Porsche. Or if either one really cares.

It is Apple that has chosen (I think for security reason but nor sure) not to include a communication protocol that would make the iPhone work with devices like PCM. Meanwhile, Porsche clearly knows that the iPhone is market leader and should have taken that into account. I guess that the majority of Porsche owners have an iPhone as opposed to an Android or.... what was it again.... oh yes, a Blackberry!

You sure? I have an S3 and only get text messages, not that I really want emails anyway.

It worked when I tried with a Verizon Droid about 10 months ago. I never tried with a Samsung.
As you say, reading emails, or even text messages, is not/should not be a priority when we drive. It is only frustrating to find a functionality that is not supported

I had the same problem with my IPhone. Porsche dealer indicated it only works for full messages with Blackberry. Changed to Blackberry and now get full messages up on the screen. Had same issue with my BMW 650 and that dealer advised same solution. Go to Blackberry if you want full email reception/visability. The BMW only shows the subject line and the from line until you stop the car. Then full message. The 991 shows full message from the beginning as it were. I'm not sure there is a solution for email messages between Iphone and Porsche. Reason is the manufacturers (Porsche and BMW) don't believe IPhone security system is as good.

I'm not surprised that it works with Blackberry. QNX provides the software in the PCM that coordinates the device connectivity. And Blackberry owns QNX.
