Loved the cayenne diesel...
Took my 2013 C4S in for first oil change. Was given a brand new Cayenne Diesel. MSRP about 70K. I absolutely loved that thing. I'm pretty sure it was the availability of low end torque, but I just found it a lot of fun and easy to drive around town. I used to think if I ever bought a Cayenne it would be a GTS, now I think I would opt for the diesel. Might even be a perfect second car to 911. Just wondered if any other 911 owners have driven the diesel yet?
I actually configured one just for the heck of it the other day.
How's noise of the engine and the acceleration vs gas powered cayenne, say S?
I will probably drive it next time I'm at the dealership. The fuel consumption of this thing is pretty impressive too.

Wait for the facelift later this year or early next year. The Cayenne will get the 300hp BiTurbo diesel from the Panamera and it will probably get a PDK instead of the Tiptronic.

I have the Panamera with the biTurbo (the 250hp, 550Nm) and it's a blast.
This thing pulls better than my C2S. Really, it does. Plenty of low down grunt. Slight lag from idle but can live with that.
Of course the C2S keeps pulling into the high rev range which the diesel cannot - nevertheless, it's a nice engine. Best diesel car I have ever driven and it sounds like a V8. Nice angry growl on take-off and it never sounds like a diesel, not even when idling cold.

I still hope Porsche will eventaully offer that BiTurbo diesel in the Macan as well. Cayenne would be too big for my needs, the Macan seems just perfect (although width is almost the same as the Cayenne). The fact that they use the "old" Audi diesel and the fact that not all options are available yet, made me decide to stay with Audi for now. It somehow felt like a step back to go from my SQ5 to a Macan S diesel.
Maybe a Macan GTS diesel in the near future??? (Probably wishfull thinking, but they still have 2 more years before I need a new car

I found the engine very quiet on the non-S diesel I drove. Could not really tell it was a diesel, except when i looked at my avg MPG and found it to be 26-29 with mixed city/hwy driving.
The acceleration is what makes it a blast to drive. Really pushes you back into the seat even though the numbers don't look that fast. You don't have to work as hard to get the response from the engine due to the low end torque. Almost any gear will just get up and go, really fun and effortless.
I would probably wait for facelift too. I think the design updates will be nice, would consider a non-diesel turbo engine if in same price range. Although I actually had no issue with tiptronic transmission (especially not in an SUV), I would rather have PDK if offered.

No, I have a 991 as a toy, and that's the best Porsche ;-)
But I'd love to add a daily driver to the stable. And for that I'd prefer the Macan over the Cayenne.

I got one as a loaner too. It was great - quiet and tons of torque. Not trading in the 911 for it, but if I needed an SUV, I would definitely consider it. The best thing is that filled up the range is something ridiculous like 700 miles
I have driven both the Touareg and different versions of the Cayenne (but not the Diesel yet) and there is a world of difference between the two in terms of chassis and road feel. The Cayenne is not just a VW with a Porsche badge and I would bet that the same will apply to the Macan vs. Audi.

Macan may have an Audi platform (it is actually the platform of the current A4/A5), but no one will "feel" the link between an Audi Q5 and a Porsche Macan. Two completely different vehicles. The Macan will "feel" like a true Porsche, even if it is an SUV.Suzy991 (iOS app)
