Mileage and Reliability
It seems most of the quirks were ironed out at the start of our relationship. Now it's pure bliss as we know each other's shortcomings and have learned to work around them. We work so well together it's like we finish each other's sentences. Sometimes I work her 7 speed MT in such a way that we're perfectly synchronized, and I can hear her engine scream, and it pleases me to no end. Not only do I love her more with every passing day, but she somehow looks prettier to me than ever before. Would I ever trade her in for a newer one? Somehow the question seems inappropriate. For now we're both living in the moment and enjoying it to the fullest.
Hard to say what the issue is. Each time was a different issue. First time it was discovered during a recall visit. There was a leak and PCNA said to just replace it. Appears to be commonly seen on Panameras. The second time, the tranny at times would not catch first gear/reverse from a stop if the car was cold. It could easily stall if at a slight incline. So original and the two replacements make this the third tranny. I'm chalking it up to bad luck, fingers crossed.

Sorry if we hijacked the thread.
I'm just over 40k miles. By driving this much I'm finding all the issues for you guys, especially long term ones. Honestly, beyond little squeaks, and the third transmission, I've had no problems. I track it, Autocross it, and driven cross country N-S and E-W.
Just drive it. It's a tough dependable car that wants to be driven. Enjoy.

I echo that. I'm only at 14k miles (I drive maybe 12k miles per year), but this car is just as durable and tough as either of my 997's, or my 2004 Cayenne S (which I put 60k miles on).
If you dont mind, What was the tailpipe recall?

In my case they replaced the entire tranny, it was in the shop a little over two weeks. I saw a drive train fault appear on the dash and it was jumping in and out of gear. I was only going around 20 - 30 miles an hour.

My 1980 911SC Weissach has 38,000 miles since I purchased it new- that is an average of 373 miles every four months!

25k miles in about 18 months for me. Many track days, daily commuter in the polar vortex (through 5 inches of slush yesterday), long trips, jaunts through Manhattan's urban jungle, etc. No issues whatsoever except the solenoid heater exchange, and the factory recalls -- all very minor. Yes it has been bathed in salt all winter, but after a good wash, it looks great again, and it will get a proper detailing in the spring. I'll admit that sometimes I daydream about mixing it up and getting an Aston or Alfa next but then I drive in the harsh winter conditions through the city, the burbs, etc. in total reliability and comfort and I remember why this is the best daily driver in the world.
I have GEICO's mechanical warranty on the car, which covers engine and transmission (at the least) so when the warranty is up, I will probably continue to drive the car for a handful of years, until around $75k miles. At this mileage, my 997 wore out is strut brace mount and started having some wheel sensor issues. I think they have improved on those areas in the 991 -- it just feels better engineered.

My Sport steering wheel stitching on the bottom is starting to come part at the 5 o'clock position a lot more then the others, and my drivers seat shows more wear then it really should, both issues have been brought to the dealers attention. Im hoping that both will be replaced. Im very careful getting in and out of the car, as to not put pressure on the seat siding.
Other then that the car has been great, and we had a horrid winter this year in Toronto, and my car is not garaged.
My 2006 Mustang GT has just 15,000 miles on it and that number is likely to stay low as I am in my Porsche as much as I can - I am coming up on two years since it was built on March 5, 2012 and I am just over 11,000 miles already! Considering my daily commute is about 1 mile each way, you can see that I am spending all of my free time in the Porsche.
