I have my first service coming up next week and have put on 3500 miles in the first year. I noticed in another thread this was a similar amount of use in a year, probably when used as a second or third car.

A couple of questions/thoughts.

I am curious how many miles everyone is driving after 1 or 2 years now.

Does the rate of putting on miles affect long term reliability?

By putting on so few miles could you miss a major issue during the warranty period or will low miles keep the car more more reliable due to less wear and tear over time.

I'm just over 40k miles. By driving this much I'm finding all the issues for you guys, especially long term ones. Honestly, beyond little squeaks, and the third transmission, I've had no problems. I track it, Autocross it, and driven cross country N-S and E-W.
Just drive it. It's a tough dependable car that wants to be driven. Enjoy.

 

I'm right behind you with 39k miles; I drive 200 miles a week. I bought mine used in August with 35k on the clock. You went through 3 transmissions? Wow, that concerns me for long term reliability with the PDK's. Mine was replaced a few months ago. My only other failure was a cracked coolant reservoir. I have a CPO, so I doubt I'd keep it after the warranty runs out...

 

No one will beat my 500 miles in 4 months :-)

 

I think it depends more on how you drive it.
Sustained High RPM in Sport Plus mode and blasting over bumpy, pot-hole roads and sitting outside in the elements all day will wear things out faster.
3500 miles is a fair ammount of yearly enjoyment and your car will be well preserved at that rate.

 

What is up with those transmission replacements?

 

I have 6500 miles in 11 1/2 months. No issues/problems whatsoever. I do plan on getting the factory warranty extended before the one year anniversary of delivery just to give me peace of mind for a total of 6 years.

 

Not sure about Canada, but once you buy your car here in the US, there is no Extended Warranty unless you want to go third party (at time of delivery or after).

 

In Canada you can buy the Porsche extended warranty (similar to CPO warranty) any time up to the time the original warranty expires. Catch is, if not done within 12 months of original delivery you have to have the car inspected before they'll sell it to you. Up to 12 months no inspection. I confirmed that again with my dealership about 2 weeks ago.

 

What's a couple of transmissions between friends...

 

2nd 991. Put 15,000 miles on the first in one year, traded in and now put 16,000 miles in one year. No issues except for a horn failure on the first one and a couple of solenoids on the second one. The car is tracked regularly and both the engine and transmission are running strong.

 

Completed my 1st year with about 5000 miles. Is a weekend car only. No issues whatsoever except for that tailpipe recall, which was not a big deal at all. I just love driving it.

 

Today is my one-year anniversary of the purchase of a brand new 2013 C4S. I now have almost 13,000 miles on her, and my smile just gets bigger with every additional mile. As somebody said in another post, trying to preserve the car with as few miles as possible is like saving your wife for the next guy. I want to get all the pleasure I can from this car, and I'm definitely getting it.

With regard to reliability, I actually had more issues with the car when I first bought it than I have now. It seems most of the quirks were ironed out at the start of our relationship. Now it's pure bliss as we know each other's shortcomings and have learned to work around them. We work so well together it's like we finish each other's sentences. Sometimes I work her 7 speed MT in such a way that we're perfectly synchronized, and I can hear her engine scream, and it pleases me to no end. Not only do I love her more with every passing day, but she somehow looks prettier to me than ever before. Would I ever trade her in for a newer one? Somehow the question seems inappropriate. For now we're both living in the moment and enjoying it to the fullest.

 

Got mine in Apr 2013, put about 3500 miles as well. Weekend only car.

 

I wonder why in the US, they don't give extended warranties ( or cpo), if you buy a new one. odd.
