is the parking brake separate from the discs?

I had to have my parking brake recalibrated last year on my 991. For the last month the car smells like rubber/brakes every time I get out - even on super short trips (like at a track day). It's the parking brake. I just got a warning on the dash.

Taking it in exit week, but I'm wondering if it's the rear pads that are affected or are there rear shoes for a separate parking brake?

Thanks,
DRP

There are shoes and a drum inside the rotor.
There is also an adjusting wheel to adjust them with.
