First Oil Change @ 2k or 10K miles?

After the motor has been broken in properly, are members changing their oil at that point (2k miles) or waiting until the recommended 10k mile interval for the first service? I called my service department and they told me to save my money and wait until the odo hits 10k. I would love to hear what the forum consensus is on this issue. Thanks for weighing in.

Definitely, I would also love to hear what others' opinion are as I'm in the same situation.

That's not good enough? A company that would profit from you is telling you NOT to give them your money and you would question their word?

I'm so confused! They make gobs of $$$ off of oil changes and it would be in their best interest to have you come in every 10 miles and have the oil changed...but no, they are going by what Porsche (the company they represents, who made your car) tells them to do. Doesn't the service indicator (installed by the factory) also tell you to change the oil once a year or every 10K miles? Is that also not good enough?

Just askin'

I got a similar response from my service department here in Northern VA. Considering it's an extra oil change that they can make money on, I'm assuming they're actually serious about it really not needing it.

Fortunately (???), I got my 1 year service at 3,500 miles including oil change, so at least I'm not wondering any more. I certainly had the same questions and was planning on taking my baby in at 2,000.

And the (???) is because I would have been happy to have a chance to log some more miles.

2k it's my car and I intend to keep it long past the warranty period.
Unlike some things I read in these forums changing oil more often can't hurt the engine.
I do all my own work so it's my time and a little oil. I also do analysis at every change.
I change at once a year after first change. Do what you want and I'll do what I want with my car!

One year or 10K, whichever comes first. At about $300 a clip (or more) to change oil, I can wait.

Generous offer, but I'm inclined to just let you continue to change your own cars oil.

have to admit that when the dealership said it wasn't required, that makes a very compelling case to wait until 10K

I also spoke with my salesman who made a strong case to follow the manufacturer's recommendations. So I think I'm going to have to defer to those more mechanically inclined and trust the fact that Porsche would most likely require a 2k change if truly necessary.

I got mine done after break-in at just over 2K. I'm hoping to keep my car a long time and figure it can't hurt. I figure the dealer wants me to wait for 10K as the engine will incur more wear, thus allowing for greater service profits in the long run. Service is typically the biggest profit center for an auto dealership. Bottom line is I feel better for doing it, which stands for something..

I'd be curious to know results from those who have tested their oil after an oil change. . . . At both 2K and 10K?

5k miles or one year (whichever comes first) is what I tend to opt for . The only exception is my 12 Cayenne V6 . With the SUV I just follow the Porsche recommended intervals.

It always amazes me how many people refuse to listen to scientists and engineers who are experts, and instead do whatever they want.
