They hold bottled water and large chipotle unsweetened ice tea just fine.
I think that their gossamer construction requires a leap of faith, however. Given the chance, they perform admirably.
I am of the opinion that the cup holder is one of the cleverer design solutions I have seen and totally unique. Any car maker can make holes in the center console. This is way cooler and actually quite functional.
