I was at Amelia and watched that exact car perform the up and down with that top.....its very trick....and I like the concept.

What I do not like is the silver bar....it just doesnt look well with an opposite color like this blue....perhaps a silver car would work better.

Now if the bar was blue like the rest of the car and the black ragtop was a blue hardtop.. IMO that would look great.

Were you at the Ritz Sat night for the open bar? ....I went to order a couple drinks and was shocked when the bartender said "the tab is taken care of"....I replied, "all night?"

The new Targa is an improvement but I still can't get my head around developing an automatic targa. The old targa removable top was light enough to remove by one person easily in a few seconds and stow. Now, there is a $15,000 mechanism to do the same thing with the added possibility of a problem and weight of having more motors. I'll stick to my coupe and not worry about weight. motors and potential squeaks for a lot less money.
Just my .02.

Roger that, I think the car looks great but it's 3472 lb vs. 3120 lb for the coupe. That's a HUGE difference. Hell the Macan Turbo can run with the Targa 4S.

I think a powered Targa roof goes against the Porsche principle of 'simple first'. I think they missed the boat at the expense of complexity.

A more direct comparison for the Targa 4S is of course the Cab 4S. The top mechanisms look similar and the curb weight is more in line. If you are going to the track with either of these and weight becomes paramont then select the Cab because its a 100+ pounds lighter than the Targa. Probably not too many of either at the track though.

I tracked the hell out of my 991.1 T4S, which carried a similar weight penalty to the 991's. Believe me, it was very competent, as it should be. These are all modern 911's with amazing balance, chassis, brakes, engines, trannies, etc. even if some are more top heavy than others.

I don't think that there is anything about the 991 that fits with simple first. I am not judging whether that is a good or a bad thing - just pointing out that from the metallurgy, to the PDK and PDCC, simple does not even come to mind (JMO). In fact, even the electronics - where simple first would have been a bonus, are complex - too complex and to bulky.

The weight issue is significant, I agree. But if you are getting a targa, or likely a rag top, racing and ultimate performance are not the highest things on the list. If style is balanced with speed, the weight is probably OK.

I have a coupe. If my wife were not spending my disposable cash, and than some, on a kitchen as we speak, I am not sure that for my eye and driving, the Targa would not be on my list. Again, just my opinion.
