Easier said than done.. It's like crack.. seems great at first then it owns your life.. You never see it coming

I agree, that's why I always make someone else drive.. ..

But not a Prius.. I still have some dignity.

Exactly. Unless it's an off-road excursion, I don't let my car dictate my life.

Somewhat off-topic, but some of you guys in here with parking woes should really consider using Uber. Uber has made it infinitely easier to grab a "cab" and get to a destination with no messy payments, clean cars, and lightning-quick service. I find myself Ubering around town so often these days.

I will park my 991 pretty much anywhere. Then again, I leased so I don't care. One of the greatest benefits to leasing. All the driving pleasure , zero paranoia.

I've babied all my cars before Porsche and even more so with my 991. Corners only, preferably corners with a bonus space on the side that I can crookedly park into. I'll go to Trader Joe's 15 minutes prior to close to get a good space (it's in a big strip mall with many other popular stores) and if there isn't one I'll just shop another day. The most ridiculous length I've gone to when parking my 991, is to carry an orange construction cone. If I can't find a good corner space.... I create my own.

Coincidentally, I am in need of advice along these lines.

Currently at work I park in a reserved spot on the 6th floor of my parking garage, which is the highest floor that still is covered. The problem is when it rains, the water drips through and leaves a puddle right on my spoiler and another one right on my driver side door. If it's still raining a lot then I have to get in quickly or I'll get wet (just a few drops). Leaves mineral stains a bit too so I have to wipe that off. On the plus side, parking spots are in pairs and there are 3 ft striped buffers on the side of both spots. So if I park 1.5 ft towards my buffer and the other car does the same we have a ton of space on either side of us.

I've asked for another spot and have been offered up one on the 4th floor. The plus side is I don't have drive up as much and back down in the garage. And I don't have to worry about the rain. The bad thing is the parking spots are like normal ones, all right up on each other. It's still reserved parking so I'd know who dinged me etc but not as good as having tons of buffer.

What would you do?

+1

A neighbor drives his Bentley and parks on the grass to watch his kids' soccer & baseball games knowing full well a foul ball could hit it just right. Another parent drives his R8 to his son's football games. It has been dinged by helmets, Colemans, lawn chairs....

McLaren P1 and my 911 have parked on gravel roads at various away games. I used to cringe at the thought but it's so much more fun to enjoy the experience with others, especially kids.

I use caution when parking. I know its just a car, but a little extra time parking sure beats the heck out seeing a ding every time you walk up to it. I will circle a crowded lot looking for the best (widest) gap. I won't park it alone at the end or across two spaces. I think that is hater bait. At work we have a 7 story garage with decent sized spaces. I usually take an end spot or park between someone who as backed their car in on my passenger side and someone who has parked front first in their spot on my drivers side. I avoid other coupes. Doors are long and heavy. Even if I do get dinged its not the end of the world, I have the Dent Doctor here and he really is a magician. I just don't want to go to the doctor if I can avoid it.

We truly are some of the most blessed people on earth if getting a door ding on your car takes up so much of your time, energy, thought and lifestyle choices...

Perspective people!!!!

Please spend a bit more time giving back to the world. Use that energy to help others. I am sure you can find a wide parking space at your local chapter of whatever your favorite charity may be.

Thank you Louis. I need a smaller cone as the frunk in my C4S will not fit the one I used to carry in my C2S. First world problems...

I think the majority of posters here have perspective. This is a forum about the cars we love. Nothing wrong with wanting to keep them from being damaged by the carelessness of others. Consider climbing off your high horse and stop speculating on what I and others do with our energy and resources. Some go way farther than I would... 'orange cone', but I wouldn't make that jump to them needing to give back more or picking a charity nonsense. Nothing wrong with saying we are crazy for being so particular about our cars. WE KNOW THAT. This is all in fun. Maybe we should be more serious on this forum. So you can honestly say you have always parked in the first spot available? You are correct that we are blessed.

No high horse...just cannot believe that people would not go to a concert or a restaurant, certain stores, etc because they are afraid of a door ding.

And yes, I do look for Porsche parking whenever possible, but would never change plans if I couldn't find it.

Being blessed is a great thing, we are all very lucky.

That's Z! Just wondering about parking diagonally and taking more than one spot- aren't you afraid of attracting negative attention from others especially a jealous person with a sharp set of keys?

You know "look at that $&@), who does he think he is parking like that?"

I've heard of cars being vandalized because the owner took more than one spot on purpose.

I'm probably as OCD as you, and park close to a curb on one side (or at an end so only have to deal with one car) and I'll park a bit further away from that car or I will keep looking for a spot that is fairly wide. My wife is used to that now so she doesn't even question it anymore. If I know the "parking situation" is not good where we are going, we'll take my wife's BMW

Louis - I NEVER take more than one parking space, I agree that single act is an open door to getting keyed up. I always take corners, preferably a corner that is next to the non-space with painted diagonal lines. This way I get my corner with a little extra room to ensure that whomever parks next to the corner space has plenty of room to not ding my door.
