C4/S good compliment to R8GT?

I want to be done with heavy powerful sedans (selling M5); keep thinking I need the space/power and all that ends up happening is I that I end up driving by myself about 98% of the time, stuck in brutally slow stop and go traffic. Commuting has changed for me, traffic has just gotten worse and the concentration of customers has just gone right into the heart of the city. I don't live far from the core (15 minutes) but its slow, bumpy, and something my R8GT can do but not fun for everyday/winter use - its a very stiff ride and really low to the ground with almost zero storage space for clubs or my 2 year old son.

Is adding a C4S going to be too much sport and not enough GT? I drove the 991 and honestly it felt just as comfortable as my M5. Has anyone here ever owned 2x"2 door cars" and enjoyed it - my wife has the SUV for weekend family duties. Only thing I think I will miss is a trunk to throw my clubs in and forget about them but I figure they will fit in the back seats and I can cover them with a towel if I need to park somewhere quickly before hitting the course.

What it comes down to.. is I need a car that is as exciting to go slow as it is to go fast. This the R8GT does perfectly ... but the excessive looks and bumpy ride make it a bitt too extreme I need it just a tad more usable. Thinking 991 C4 or C4S great DD with perfect winter duties.. Go!?!?

It sounds like the C4S will be perfect for you. But I don't consider it GT at all. It will make for a very versatile, comfortable, fast and sporty DD, that much is for sure.

I DD my C4S, I live in midtown. Car rides just fine, you do need to be careful on our bad roads.

I have a 3 year old and he loves the car, he spends a fair amount of time in it.

My wife also has an SUV, so if we need more room, we covered there.

The C4S will be way more daily friendly then the Audi, but might not feel as "special".

By "special", you mean rare? As an aside, I just chose a C4S over an R8 and I can't say it was a tough decision.

It's a R8GT, rare and expensive car. You won't see it often.

Agreed. I remember the production run was very low.

No second thoughts ... Go for C4S without hesitation. Perfect DD without issues. My wife got SUV for family duties too... Kinda in the same boat as you.

I use a 991 as a daily driver. With that said if I had an R8 as my toy, I would have a Panamera (maybe GTS!) as my daily driver. They handle very well and you have the extra space when you need it.

I saw a review on the Macan turbo and they likened it more to a tall Cayman than a short Cayenne, ie. nimble and fun. Sounds like it could be a nice complement to your R8GT spyder (which some day will be a collectible).

+1 I'd do the Macan Turbo as opposed to the C4S, which I think overlaps too much w/ the R8GT. W/ the Macan you'd be able to handle the winters without having to worry about clearance issues, which you'd have w/ the C4S in deeper snow.

I think that the C4S is a good complement to a tricycle! I think it is perfect for you. Small children can fit in the back without worry of exposure to air bags and it holds enough stuff for every day driving, trips to the market on the way home, etc.

I would think twice about SPASM as it makes the car very low and that has been a problem on some roads and particularly in parking lots on high angle aprons and access ramps. I would also consider whether the lowest profile summer tires are the best option - they are not nearly as shock absorbing - people downplay the role of tires in this and focus on suspension but IMO they both can have an impact.

But, overall, I think you have hit on the genius of these cars - fun and powerful when you want, but practical and comfortable when you need - which is most of the time!

I have toyed with the idea of a 458 from time to time. They are wonderful. But they generate too much attention, the ride is harsh and they are not practical in any sense of the word. What if you are on kid duty, get a call from the school nurse to get your child, and you have the 458? (I had a Z3 when my daughter was small and it was the same problem). You would have to drive home to change cars - not just because you can't put a child in the front seat, but likely because there is not enough room for both the child and his/her backpack! In the 911 - no problem. It is just a wonderful concept, wonderfully executed and wonderful to drive. The R8 is stunning however.
Best of luck to you.

Samp is infamous around these parts
I went from a Panamera to a C4S Cab as my DD. I liked the Panamera but it was too big to park easy and I wanted a Cab. My wife almost kept it except three kids so would not fit in the back. If you need the room the Panamera is great. If you want a more exciting ride - the C4S is it. Most times the ride is not that different between the Panamera and the C4S. I know that is a little off subject but may help define the 991 better.

I have a Porsche 50th anny Picnic Blanket to cover the backseats. I can get two carry bag in there easily. I install the rain cover on the bags and zip them up so the clubs can't touch, scratch, or make anything dirty inside the car.

Thanks all for the great input, tomorrow I have a C4S test and just out of curiosity asked for a PGTS. Will report back and let you know how it goes. Wife wants to know what I want for my upcoming bday, told her to let me drive cars .... she smiled and asked that at minimum she gets to pick the color

Good luck with that.

I went out to get PGTS, got C4S due to wife. Her comment: "PGTS is humongous with 4 seats, get "the smaller one" it got 4 seats too!!! " ...followed her recommendation in a heart beat!!!
