Just to clarify for everyone, that is not a T55 Torx that secures the wheel to the column. That is an M12 triple square fastener. A T55 Torx bit may do the job but if you strip it you're completely buggered. Do yourself a favor and get a set of triple square bits. You'll find that you need them often on German cars.

With PDK, even if you have the standard non-multifunction steering wheel it needs to be reprogrammed via PWIS.
I did the swap by myself and the PDK went crazy, now it doesnt downshift or upshift, only through the paddles with two+ seconds delay.
Car is on the dealer, I hope I didnt damage any electronic components
Was the dealer able to fix this... I just purchased a SD wheel and wanted to make the swap myself. My dealer also wants $300 for this, which seems very high for a 20 minute changeout. Is the PCM (PIWIS) upgrade required. I have a SD wheel with airbag and am swapping out a non MF wheel with Sport Plus and Launch Control. Thanks

I'm kinda in the same boat and want to know how it turned out for you guys. I have a 987.2 with PDK and the standard wheel (no multifunction) and ordered the sport desighn wheel with paddles from Suncoast. I was hoping to do the install myself but if I need a software update, well, guess us diy'ers are SOL. Do I need to have the Porsche Stealership do the install?

Rather than disconnecting the battery negative terminal, what about removing the air bag fuses? That way you don't lose memory settings.

I have the base steering wheel, (manual, non-multi-function),
and I came across a used sport design wheel with HEATING option for manual car.

will it fit for my car? I don't need the heating option, can I still use this part?

thanks

991.2 steering wheel looks good, are they comparable with 991.1?

Anyone have a definitive answer for the 991.1 Sport install. I have mine coming 5/10/16 and though I haven't asked the dealer for install quote I would love to do myself if at all possible. Does the install need new programming, yes or no?

Thanks

Got my Sport wheel from Suncoast and had dealer install. They reprogrammed and had to replace the horn return springs (the originals had collapsed). Glad the dealer did it.

Do you have Multifunction/heat wheel option. Mine is just Sport chrono pkg, so I was thinking I wouldn't need the programming part. Just wanted some confirmation from someone who did the install with my specs.

I have pdk and SD steering wheel. Is it a problem swapping it for another SD wheel?

I was just confirmed... Swapping a non-MF/Heat steering wheel for the non-MF SD (ex. mine is PDK sport chrono)... There is NO dealer programming required if installed correctly. Confirmed by suncoast/dealer.

My personal experience:

My car C4 991.1 PDK LuxorBeige. Multifunction not heated Steering Wheel. No Chrono Package.

Following this excellent post from Liamdoung I did the swap to Multifunction heated Steering Wheel in Black. I found it in Ebay from Germany. Very good price.

As mentioned ¨PMNewton¨ XZN TripleSquare M12 long bit fits perfectly in the Bolt. See the picture. I found a very nice set of those bits online for just 9€.

The job was really straight forward after reading this article.

Multifunction works perfectly. Heating system is not working considering my car has not this function enabled in the system. I live in Spain, so not many cold days...

I am very satisfied. Thanks all of you, specially Liamdoung and PMNewton

This is a very direct case of replacement. One model of s. wheel to same model in different color, same car.
My idea had been swap to MF 991.2 Steering Wheel. I decided no to try after reviewing some forums. Conclusions: Multifunction in 991.2 is completely different to 991.1 so is not compatible. Reprograming and even rewiring. difficult issue.
