Tail of the Dragon..
Tail of the Dragon..
Heading out to ride the tail of the dragon and cherohala skyway tomorrow...weather looks a little sketchy but we'll hope for the best...anyone whose done it before have any recommendations on restaurants?
The Cherohala will be a lot of fun. Lots of police on the Dragon so beware.
Not much by way of food and in Tellico Plains def avoid the TelliCafe... a real redneck hog hole. Nut'n'Fancy is probably your best bet. If you're staying overnight, dinner at Bluewaters Lodge is nice.

HA! I've been there a dozen times.....there really are NO restaurants near The Dragon and you'll pretty much be eating out of vending machines at the gas station - and there aren't many of those, either. The eatery in the Dragon Motel/Biker place on the NC side as you come in from the east side is OK, and about your only choice but its really basic fare more like a take-out Diner than a restaurant.
There is a bakery in Tellico Plains that has a $ 5 Apple Turnover and its worth it. I go there every time I'm in the area.
Otherwise Robbinsville or Pigeon Forge are your choices.

In Tellico Plains go to Tellico Kats Deli http://tellicokats.com, we just stopped there on Saturday with 12 PCARS, reasonable prices, good fresh deli food and very nice folks that run it. Some bikers, but very few Hardcore bikers stop here. I have stopped there at least 6 times in the last several years.
If you are headed to the Highlands make certain that you take Hwy 28 from Deals Gap > Franklin > Highlands. Lunch in the Highlands is very good at Old Edwards Inn's Wine Garden outside Patio http://www.oldedwardsinn.com/dining/winegarden. In Cashiers try CORNUCOPIA http://www.cornucopianc.com another excellent place.
