Cargraphics mufflered X-pipe vs AWE Switchpath
Cargraphics mufflered X-pipe vs AWE Switchpath
Just installed my old Cargraphics Mufflered X-pipe on another member's car.
I really like that exhaust, I think it's a really good choice for most people. I'd say that closed, it's basically the same sound level as PSE, but open it's maybe 30% louder. Definitely more noticeable with a deeper tone, but not obnoxious at all.

We installed the Cargraphic 2 box on another member's car, and did a quick comparison with the AWE switchpath on my car. The Switchpath is LOUD. It does not really capture the real delta here. Interestingly enough, the iPhone DB meter also didn't capture it (that's why you have the arm holding the phone in the video - unfortunately, you can't see the screen)
The peaks in both videos are the same (102 vs 103db) but the AWE is hudely louder, I'd guess at least 2x the Cargraphic, which is already louder than PSE. The AWE is not for everyone. I both love it and loathe it at times, it sounds amazing when you are railing on the car, but I think cops in the next 3 counties are dropping their donuts and running for their patrol cars, because it sounds like someone is running a Cup car on the street. It does shut up and when you close it, it doesn't drone at all, which is nice. I love loud exhausts that you can make quiet and this certainly falls into that category, but the automatic valve opening at 3300 rpm can startle people on the sidewalk into dropping their coffee.
This gives a back to back comparison... but trust me, unlike the video shows, the AWE is a HUGE TON louder. Hope this is helpful with people making decisions.

"HUGE TON!" Love it... The AWE is mega loud. I was out today with my friend with his GMG headers and GMG exhaust on his 997.2 GT3, and we were at least equally loud. Great comparison.
Nice video comparo, Kit. Definitely agree that videos don't ever do exhausts justice. The few clips available of Cargraphic's x-pipe don't do it any justice; after picking yours up and installing it, I was amazed at how loud the setup is.
And natch we all know that some little $3 app on a smart phone does not make for a very accurate sound meter.
You guys with your loud exhausts make me think of all of those losers riding motorcycles with straight pipes, making everyone else deaf and annoying fellow motorists. Dare I suggest: save it for the track?
+3dB is twice as powerful in energy level of the sound waves. But, you need +10dB for it to SOUND twice as loud.

I'll remind folks that have forgotten, that the decibel scale is logarithmic, so an increase of 1 db is not 1% but more like 20% (which is not accurate, but I'm just trying to make a point).

FYI - The stock PSE registers 99 db, this close. We're not talking huge orders of magnitude louder - this is not a straight pipe no cat Harley barfing out sound pollution. Please don't be judgmental here, your attitude is what gives Porsche owners a bad name.
Let me digress: I used to ride BMW motorcycles (hence my "Beemer Guy" handle) and I was out one day riding down a country road on my factory-stock (i.e. quiet) R1150RT, and I saw a little kid on the side of the road. As I approached, she stuck her fingers in her ears. Not because my bike was loud, but because she had (apparently) learned that all motorcycles are loud, obnoxious abominations. I had been damned by association. I waved at her as I went past, hoping that maybe she would change her opinion of riders. We're not all like that.

I get your point, but it all comes to good behavior. Do not go loud in densely populated areas or at certain time of the day, or, if you really want to, shift at 3,000 rpm max.
For a long time, I did not understand at all why people would put a loud exhaust on their motorcycles and cars. But switching my AWE exhaust to loud mode (where/when appropriate) and redlining with the car in Sport+ mode give me goose bumps

All of this being said, I only consider switchable systems for a street car. For others... but also for me (you do not necessarily want an F1 sound when you come back exhausted from work).
Just my $.02 of common sense
I learned a long time ago that the only one that really enjoys a loud exhaust is the driver / rider. To the vast majority of people subject to the sound blast, its just noise pollution. I remind myself of that every time I put an aftermarket exhaust on a car or motorcycle and try to keep it civil. Startling people on the sidewalks is not what I'm after - those that want to do that are narcissistic.
Funny, I've had the opposite experience from Beemerguy, when I had my 360 which was much louder than PSE the kids in my neighborhood would smile, yell awesome car, etc. I had to give a couple of those characters a ride which was probably the highlight if their day.
On the flip side there is a kid who has a loud exhaust on his Toyota that drives by my house regularly it is the most annoying thing ever.
Ferrari, Porsche Aston noise is good noise not pollution.

Freakingsome™!!!
So the AWE one, with valves closed is a bit louder than PSE with valves closed? I like a lot how it sounds with open valves, but I also want my car to do long routes on highway and I usually go with my PSE valves off to avoid the noise, after a while cruising becomes a bit irritating.
