Would you drive your 991 in the winter?

I live in WI and we have bad winters here.

The guys at the dealership said more and more people drive their porsches in the winter.. its just about having quality tires.

With that siad, I am kind of thinking about driving this car year round.

I realize most of you guys are fanatics and might not subscribe to doing such things to your sacred cars...

But, is it really possible? ANy way to protect the car from salt?

God now that I think about it..
The slush crap on the roads would probably be very harsh on that front spoiler thing since its so low to the ground..

If I lived in the snow, I would get a second set of wheels and the best snow tires I could find and drive away. That spoiler lip is cheap to replace in the worst case. My SPASM lip is like $180 from Suncoast.

Its just a car, drive it and enjoy it!

If you keep a nice coat of wax on it, or clear-bra, the finish should stay okay. I have clear bra on the front third of the car, and really like it, although others here prefer the patina of rock chips.

I drive mine all year round. A second set of downsized wheels with proper snow tires and it will go through pretty much anything New England offers up.

Yes, I did and I do. I took advantage of the awesome 27 month lease and will not keep past next June. I even drive in the rain. Imagine that!! Not sure how, but the car still runs........

19 inch wheels and Sottozero II tires got me through all but the worst of last winter. I tend not to drive anything during heavy snows. Here in Pennsylvania we have (and I am bragging ) the absolutely biggest a$!holes driving the largest 4x4 vehicles who don't seem to understand that the brake is more important than the accelerator when the road is snow covered.

I've driven my C2 in snow and it goes as well as my old 66 beetle - traction out the wazoo

Great info!
I am having thoughts about moving up North from Atlanta (PA, OH, MI, IN or MN) and am using my C2S as a daily driver. If a set of 19" wheels with Winter tires is all it takes, it is good news. The car already has a Clearbra and I could put snow tires on my 19" BBS track rims for the Winter

I drove mine all last winter with the exception of about 5 days because of deep snow, I do have the 4S. 20" set of winters and this car is unstoppable in the winter and I have a fairly steep driveway. It's not my car that I worry about in the winter, it's everyone else. Especially the 4x4 jerks that think they can stop on a dime.

Regarding the salt, I use one of these on nice days in the winter:

love to have you here in PA, but you will need the PBK option to drive a Porsche here. PBK, or "cavern buster" as we affectionally call it is a Portable Bridge Kit which automatically spans the gaping holes in the macadam PENNDOT affectionally refers to a "roadway." When the PBK senses a pothole it throws out a small path to allow you to drive over without ripping a sidewall and damaging a wheel.

I think Suncoast stocks the option and it should be installed by a dealer.

I live in Wisconsin and will be getting a sport bumper on my incoming 991. Like 6" clearance from the ground. I figure I can use it to plow my driveway! : ). Just kidding

My sales guy at an Illinois Porsche dealership drives his 991 year round. He lives in Chicago.

its my only car! going to get a set of Michelin PA4 in 20s and drive it all year round.

I would love to lower the car, but I don't want to compromise ground clearance.

I've driven all my Porsches year round since 2005. No issues whatsoever. If I can make a tire recommend, the winter Michelins are much better than the winter Pirellis.

I believe my car has 20" wheels. If I choose to drive it in the winter -- do I really need to change teh wheel size or simply the tires?

Yikes, no i would not drive my Porsche in the winter. I have a 2012 TDI Golf for the winter/DD. The Porsche is for sunny warm days. I would be worried about the other people on the road hitting me, more than driving in the winter. Of course those guys with the 4s probably are fine in the winter.
