Thinking of Moving On
Can I trademark this quote?
I always find it oddly amusing that people post "I'm thinking of leaving xyz" on an xyz forum, and are then surprised by the vitriol and predictable snark that follows.
Perhaps in your 1000+ posts you hadn't noticed that some folks here are irrationally defensive when it comes to these "perfect" cars, regardless of their shortcomings and imperfections.
Hence, a truly pointless exercise.
Do you really care what a bunch of random strangers on a forum think about your decision? Of course you don't.
And trust me when I tell you that the majority of those same random strangers really don't care what you ultimately do.
To all I say buy whatever you want, go forth and be happy. Be it cars, hair or houses. In the end, none of it really matters.
All the best.
PS. By the way, something being "not as ostentatious" is a highly subjective statement..

Around town I can accelerate crisply as and when possible so a biturbo V8 with lots of low-end torque is more suited to that kind of driving than the normally aspirated 911. It's a muscle car and everyone knows they're fun to drive in a straight line. The 911 is a bit balky off the line and has that dreaded hesitation. The 911 also is most fun above 4500 RPMs whereas most of the time my car is upshifting by 4500, so low-end grunt should be a lot of fun in the CLS.
Agreed on this point.
Have you checked out the Audi RS7? It is in the same price range and has the same performance numbers as the AMG. I have a BMW 550 that has a Dinan stage 2 on it and flat goes, but after a few years I have started noticing a idle problem and a shifting problem. I am just not sure if BMW is as well made as in years past..
I like the way the new Audi looks but have not driven one so could not give a good account of that yet.

Enjoy the CLS63 and hope it works for you. My dad drives one (a 2013) and while it's certainly a beast in a straight line, it handles nothing like a 911. But the car need only suit your needs. Best of luck!
Boy, I am just not a fan of the CLS interior. The dash is the main issue. Mercedes seems to have wanted to use every kind of switch and button imaginable. There is no cohesiveness to this. Silver buttons, black buttons, round buttons, all kinds & sizes. Just too much going on. Like 3 or 4 different designers were in charge of different parts of the interior and they never spoke to each other.
Now the S-Class Coupe & Sedan: Totally different story. And the interior shots of the new GT likewise big improvement. I'd wait for that DNA to trickle down to the CLS before getting one.

posting as a "random stranger".
Personally I say do what you will. Nobody will care about what car you owned at 67 in 50 years. Enjoy your life on your terms by your values.
I've personally owned more than 42 cars, trucks and motorcycles and i'm in my early forties. Like nick murray i'm not rich, however i'm not an ahole either.
If you have an itch to spend a few bucks might I offer a few other options.
1) braces for my 13 year old.
2) My german shephers has a floppy ear that needs straightening,
3) my back yard could use a few fruit trees
best of luck to you whatever you choose.

i agree 100%. The problem is i think the majority of the people on this forum are still in the part of there life cycle where not only do they actually care what people think or say but have a huge need to be noticed and accepted. Not all but i would bet over 60%. Age sucks but what is does do is teach you at the end of the day weather you drive a ferrari or a ford no one really cares. It just takes longer for some to come to that conclusion.
When the Audi A7 first came out, I was very attracted to it and wished they'd make an S version. Now that they do, my attraction to it has waned. Whereas, when the first CLS came out in 2004, I was very attracted to it and that attraction hasn't yet waned.
I just ended a 2-year lease on my wife's Audi Q5 which had the worst controls and buttons in any car I've ever owned. The RS7 shares a similar electronic interface so I'd never consider getting one.
My mind's made up. As soon as the 2015 CLS63 is officially being offered to be ordered, I intend to order mine.

I am sure that there is quite some difference since I left the AMG world a few years ago, I had a E55 and while it was definitely faster than the car that I departed from in a straight line, I ultimately found it boring to drive. I felt it was like pushing a mattress down the road....really fast...but not very fulfilling. Atleast with my 911, I can sling it around a few turns and corners without hitting the track or the mountains.
Regardless, I applaud your sensibilities and the ability to go after that which you want. Good luck!
