Gotta Have List
Gotta Have List
For those who have taken delivery of their Porsche, maybe several over the years, what would you say to a new Porsche owner on items you have to get. Being a boat owner I have a list of cleaning supplies, convenience items and safety itemsI tell my friends to get when they buy a new boat. No brainer stuff from someone who has had a few boats, tricks of the trade.
So what's the sage advice? Best basic cleaning supplies, add ons or goodies to order for the car or garage. Anything goes!! Include a link you have it to the item. Thanks !

First - Congratulations! Second - Clear bra! Third - Chrono Package! As for cleaning supplies, I would purchase a lot of micrfiber towels (Amazon has great deals); I also highly recommend The Chemical Guys for cleaning and detailing supplies...I have their rinseless and waterless car wash products, as well as their concentrated car wash/wax soap. In addition, I use Bouncer's (a U.K. company) Salute the Fruit and Vanilla Ice car waxes. Salute the Fruit is great for any deep coloured paint, leaving an almost 3D effect to it. Vanilla Ice is great for white and silver coloured cars.
Thanks...... and yes to all 3. Build is LOCKED and sport chrono is part of it!!
The other items are exactly the type of things I am interested in. NOT worried about the build anymore I just want to know what to have on order or in the garage when my new born arrives

My recommendations:
1) First of all tell your dealer that you DONT want them to wash the car when you get it. The Porsche Paint, because of all the environmental laws is VERY soft. So when they do their wash at the dealer they put swirls in it. Some people ask to take delivery with the paper covering still on the car.
2) Get yourself a good initial Detail .. (i.e. paint correction) and possibly nano-coating (alternative to wax).
3) And then as part of #2.. Clear Bra.. minimum.. Full hood, bumper, headlights, side mirrors and front L/R panes
At this point you at least have a car that is initially protected...
4) Get yourself a custom fitted windshield reflector. None of the ones you buy at the auto stores will fit properly.. So go to amazon and get one that fits correctly (about $35). If you are in FLA I assume you will need this..
5) For taking care of the outside, take a look at the detailing forum. If you are going to have someone else regularly detail your can then you can let them take are of most of this.
However I'd recommend even if you have someone else detail your car, get some Einszett c0ckpit premium. This is really great for wiping down the PCM display, center console and all the things that get finger prints on it. Every few days just take a microfiber cloth and give it a 15 second clean up. Keeps everything inside from looking figerprinted.
6) Depending on where you drive and how many trucks who like to throw rocks at your windshield you can consider getting it clearplex'd to compliment your clear bra..

almost forgot..
Assuming you are going to do your own washes.. You must get a CR spotless DI. Get the smaller one with one cylinder (~$250)..
Then compliment it with a Air/blower drier (i.e. Airmax or one of the competitors, but not a leaf blower). Best way to dry a car, takes a fraction of the time as wiping it down, you don't put swirls in your car and you don't get all the runs...
Check out the detailing forum on these. Once you get them you will wonder how you ever washed a car without them.

Great COMMENTS above ****
I have yet to find a dealer that is capable of properly doing a proper prep job. They will fuc_ up any car finish. If you have black, you're in real trouble. Especially if they pull out any sort of buffer. Regardless, you're talking about a paint correction right off the bat. But only a low percentage people even know much about that level of maintenance and think my previous comments are crazy.
I just saw a 991S Cab fresh off the truck, and they don't even come completely protected with plastic anyway which is ridiculous. I've seen cheaper brands that come completely wrapped and protected.

Good luck!
Steve

The good part is after delivery if you get the car initially detailed properly, it is pretty easy to take care of. In my case I got a good nano-coating and I just do spray on nano detail about every other wash. Ends up being pretty low maintenance.
The other thing is you want to do all of this paint correction and prep before the clear-bra... Which is another good reason I would never going with the dealer who just outsources the clear bra to a local and it is unlikely a proper paint prep/correction would be done first.
Actually in general I'd never do any of the dealer add on's in this regard as you never know who they are outsourcing to or exactly what they are doing.

[QUOTE=scatkins;4156500]Yep, and mine was black which I've been told is the softest and of course shows swirls the worst.. The guy I had do my initial post delivery had a lot of work just to get the damn swirls out.
Wouldn't the swirls be in the clear coat and not in the black color coat itself?

Yes. It's in the clear coat. The clear coat is thinner than a piece of paper. The clear coat tends to be soft on Porsches and swirls/scratches easily. Mercedes has been doing some ceramic clear coats I think which are a lot harder. I wish Porsche paint wasn't as soft as it is.
A bad scratch goes through the clear coat.
