I don't love the black plastic look that shows from the rear when the spoiler is up. Thinking about doing a white wrap of the area under there, but there's a lot of weird-*** shaped and textures under there, including one like a waffle iron.

Think a wrap is possible, and if so, what kind/where to buy. I would need gloss white, but have been toying with using a graphite look. Would like to avoid painting if at all possible.

Me too. I was thinkin about the same thing also.

But i also noticed just today that we can manually adjust the height of the rear spoiler so I would make it lower abit so the internal black part doesnt show much.

Not a fan of the spoiler in the up position. Looks like a trunk is open. That's why I went with the duck conversion. The up spoiler is a functional design, and not really meant to look good in my opinion. The back of the 991 is beautiful with it down, or with the duck and duck/wing combo. The other two options are fixed, hence no up/down obviously.

The only option you'll have is paint. But even with white, that area tends to get dirty and will be hard to clean. White will also bring more attention to the underside (which isn't attractive) and will look even worse than it does now. Better left as is and keep that thing down whenever possible ...

 

To be completely honest, if I see a 991 with the spoiler up at a speed of less than 75mph then I know the driver hit the button to manually raise it, and that seems a little lame to me. Just my humble opinion :-).

Have you thought about a spoiler like an aerokit addition or something?

I do also if in town, but on highways, I figure he may have been at or above 75 but has not dropped down to speed needed to lower it. Generally out in Cali, mine will be up even at 65 or 70 as I had to slow down, no button needed..so the blanket statement is a bit off

 

Yep - Agreed. I think you need to drop below 50 or 55 to have it lower. I was indeed talking about in-town speeds.

 

I don't disagree. I put it up manually when washing my car and that's when it bothers me. I guess that's pretty lame too. LOL

 

It is all personal preference.. I've only had mine up while driving when accidentally leaving it up. But I don't think it looks bad... Then again don't be so sure when you see that that the guy didn't just wash his car and forget about it..

 

You can manually lower it/override the set speed lowering function prior to hitting 50-55mph- just press the spoiler button and it will retract on command.

 

to OP, you should be careful about painting or wrapping the inside of the spoiler. It is very close to where the engine cabin is, and if the shop uses cheap paint/ wrapping material, it might start melting. A friend of mine vinyl wrapped the rear bumper, and it was not able to sustain the heat even on the outside; you can only imagine what would've happened if you wrapped the inside of your spoiler...

Well my 991 has a case of priapism then...

It always stays up! Won't go down! I like it 'up'. Will one day get either the Aero kit pieces or go aftermarket, but for now that's how it is!
