CPO 2012 991 Carrera S vs New 2014 991 Carrera S

I'm deciding whether I should get a very lightly used CPO 2012 991 Carrera S that has under 10k miles or get a new 2014 model..

The used 2012 one does not have Sport Exhaust which I think is a must..

Would getting the CPO 2012 model be a better financial move?

I was set on the CPO one but thought that if the discount on the 2014 models were good, why not get the new one with the options that I want.. or maybe lease it 24 months with 5k miles/year since I will not be using it as DD..

Thanks for your opinion guys!

Your first decision should probably be lease vs buy. If you decide to lease, Porsche does offer great incentives and prices on short-term, 24-month leases, especially if you keep it around 5,000 miles/year.

If you decide against leasing and look into purchasing the car, I wouldn't let PSE (sport exhaust) be the deal breaker. You can always have the dealership install this for you afterwards (~$3500-4000) or you can purchase your own, valved exhaust system and have it installed for much less.

Buying CPO is a smart move for some folks since the initial depreciation hit doesn't affect you.

If PSE is a must, that answers your question. I think options important (but PSE was not a must for me). The Depreciation in first year is steep and the next year as well. Discounts will be good, but you should be saving 25%ish on the CPO ( or it is not a good deal). I got a 2010 911 s CPO with 2,500 miles in 2011. List was $111. Deal was $89. Loved it, but fell in love with the 991 and traded in on a 2012 - very early 991 s coupe.

OP, you don't list prices, so it's difficult to gauge which is a better financial move. Actually, neither is a good financial move; buying an expensive depreciating asset is never smart.

PSE is over-rated and silly. Don't let it guide your decision.

That said, if it's what you want, then you should get what you want, especially if you are planning to spend upwards of $100,000. Order a 2015 and get exactly what you want in the colors that you want it.

Buy the newer car, it is always better than an early version of a new model. If you are worried about depreciation then you probably shouldn't buy either. Of course, find one with the options you desire.

Definitely providing some numbers would help (regarding which is better value). But just based on the years a 2012 should be much cheaper than a 2014 and you won't take as big a hit come resale.

The PSE can definitely be added and when I did it on my 2013 Boxster S I negotiated the price down first then got them to got a bit lower when I said I would add the PSE at their dealership.

Definitely take the time to look around and find the car with the options you want. There are plenty of them out there. Good luck!

As said, we need numbers. U hv to decide lease vs buy. This isn't ur first car so don't ask others to make up ur decision
