PSA : Found Cheap Brembo? Read This!
This is really disgusting. I hope brembo and the auto makers are doing something about this. Have a look mods pin and move in the correct section.
Just got word that some shady Chinese company are actually making counterfeit Brembo and AP Racing brake kits. From just the looks of it, there’s little to tell apart from the originals and the counterfeits. Price wise, the counterfeit brakes are just one third the price of the real deal.

What we can gather from the news site is that the whole operation isn’t as shady as you would imagine, as the makers of these imitation brakes actually has a showroom, warehouse and a workshop! The shop owner, known as Chen, mentions that the brakes are even used in some Macau races. Even more worryingly, Chen has claimed that he has exported quite a number of these counterfeit brakes to Malaysia. The reporter has also noted that the warehouse has stocked a lot of these counterfeit brake calipers and disc rotors, which they suspect might be for wholesale purposes.

Chen does not counterfeit only Brembo, as he claims that he also produces AP Racing brakes and other well known brakes. Several experts has voiced their concerns over these fake brake kits, as using imitation brake kits can cause fatal accidents, since they do not stand up to the strict quality control Brembo and other manufacturers impose.
So guys, if you do happen to come across some brand new, but dubiously cheap Brembo brakes, please proceed with extreme caution, as these counterfeit brakes do not perform like how the originals should. The car’s braking system should not be taken lightly, as this is a matter of life and death.

Sadly I'm not surprised at the fact that someone is making fake Brembos. The surprising part is this guy is happy to talk about it and have his picture taken. Once the Legal and brand protection folks at Brembo get wind I have no doubt they'll start an investigation...if they haven't already.
It is interesting how China, one of the greatest and most advanced civilizations, seems to be more known today for knockoffs and intellectual property theft. Was there some sort of "screw innovation, let's just rip everyone else's ideas off" policy adopted sometime in the 1990s? It's sort of baffling in that they have the financial means and human capital to be a global leader in whatever they put their mind to.
Anyways, I'm sure these brakes are made with crap quality control and will fail often and dangerously.

Whatever makes money you know.
I'm flabbergasted by the Chinese culture of forgery. I don't get it. Are they totally soulless and think it's okay? Or do they know it's wrong and don't care? It's not just like there's a few bad apples. It's part of the culture and done on a HUGE scale. Love to read an article about it that's not racist and not apologist for it, but just really explains it. I find it baffling.

They are driven to succeed and take over the USA by any means. Doesn't help that every major US company produces things there, hence funding their economy. In turn they buy US companies, real estate, and are our loan shark.
The US in turn chases manufacturing out of the US like it's some sort of deadly virus.
A perfect storm isn't it?

Sure, but if every major US company stopped producing things there, the price of all those things would shoot WAY up. Do people suddenly want to start paying WAY more for all the those things? Nope.
Making it easier for companies to do business in the US wouldn't hurt either... Just stating the facts.
But if you're all for free competition you can't blame US companies for wanting to produce things in China (where it's cheapest) vs producing things in the US where it's more expensive.
You can't say you're in favour of free competition and then get mad at the results of free competition.
What do you propose - keeping in mind that you're in favour of free competition - not government intervention.

I don't blame them for producing there, but would also like to make it more attractive for them to start producing here more (in the USA) as well!
There's nothing contradicting about that.

Sure but the US is one of the most business friendly places in the world. To make it easier to do business and compete with China they'd have to scrap the minimum wage, social security and workplace safety rules.
Anyway, we could run around in circles here.
Time for me to get back to my work!

Where are brembos made?
Those look very well made. The calipers don't fail easily except for possible leaks and uneven pressure on each piston.
The rotors do fail easily as quality ones go through cryogenic treatment and uses tested materials. I would be more concerned about disc.
In either case, worst case scenario is loss of braking performance, not total loss of brakes. Not great for safety and certainly not the consumer or brembo
